How wonderful it is to have rivers and natural filters for them!

This purple pocketbook is one of many mussel species found throughout the Licking River and other local watersheds. Freshwater mussels quietly improve water quality by filtering sediments, algae, and other particles from the water. The material they do not use is expelled and naturally settles to the riverbed, helping keep the water clearer and healthier for aquatic life.

Recently, Boone County Conservation District, Kentucky conducted a bat survey at Conservancy Park, identifying species such as the big brown, eastern red, and tricolored bat!
