Sparkle Alum Update

After 3 years in foster care, Chopper found a home and was adopted on 9/16. He’s fully settled into his new home and I got updates today! Adopter had been keeping foster mom Rachel up to date too. Chopper hid under the bed a few days but his new mom and dad were so patient and loving with him.

He’s a resident of Greensboro now and he has a new kitty buddy (Sunny). His adopters met him a few months ago and waited until they got moved to their new place. We sure appreciate them for that and for adopting a long term foster. Thank you Avery & Evan.

Chopper was about 3 months old when he was rescued fall 2023 from a colony at a local business in Burlington NC and became very social and adoptable thanks to his amazing foster family (Steve/Rachel and their kids).

Sam feels much better after his grooming and exam at Town N Country Animal Hospital He had an ear infection so they put BNT in his ears which will let two weeks. It’s impossible to get our hands on him every day for daily treatment.

He also has tartar buildup on his teeth despite a dental earlier this year so he will get scheduled again early next year.

Vet recommended CET dental chews which I added to Amazon, Chewy and Walmart wish list if anyone wants to donate.

His vet bill was $90 more than expected because of ear infection, cytology and meds. ($430)

BURLINGTON NC
This is a friendly 6 lb (6 months old), medium hair, handsome friendly stray that volunteers Rachel & Steve trapped (and we’d hate him to go back to life on the streets). Buildings are being torn down where he and a few other strays currently are. The others are feral. He is not.

He was neutered through Burlington Animal Services

We are waiving fee if we can find him an adopter since at this time we’ve not incurred any vet fees associated with him as he’s not in foster.

Good Meowning kitty cat friends! I almost thought I may have to cancel Sam’s appt at Town N Country Animal Hospital today when our first attempt to get him in a carrier failed. He bit Jim so I had to move into option 2 with the vacuum. Watch video for that explanation. I didn’t run it near him but rather my normal routine each morning.

Once I was able to get him after calmly talking to him he had no aggression and didn’t try to bite. It’s always so hard getting him in a carrier but once he’s in it he’s okay. He also acts like a completely cat after he’s shaved down.

Sam stays behind the scenes and has been with us since March 2020 and will remain with us for life since he is prone to blockages and is a timid cat. we’ve managed to successfully prevent him from having another blockage in thhe past 5 years with his diet and a quiet home. 5 years ago he was rushed to the emergency vet on the verge of death after he blocked, and he stayed there 2 days. The next time it happens he will need surgery and we have worked hard to prevent that.

In addition to running Sparkle Cat Rescue and Sparkle Cat Gift Shop, I thoroughly enjoy being creative. People will tell you I stay active, and if I’m not active something is not right. This was created using a photo I took of Chiquitita today. I erased background first. Then edited in PicCollage with a filter. I wish I could paint but knitting, jewelry making, photographing/ videoing cats, and organizing are more my specialty aside from socializing and loving on cats. ~Stephanie

Chiquitita was rescued 2 years ago and fostered in Mebane with her companions Fernando and Dancing Queen until earlier this year (February to be exact). While Queenie is still fostering in Mebane, we could not find a new foster for C and F so they are at office because there was no choice. Chiquitita is far more social than Fernando. She does startle with quick movements but if you sit down at her level she will come on over for loving when she gets to know you. It won’t be instant. Maybe a week. But with love and patience she’s going to make someone very happy. She’s good with calm, chill cats. She will reach out to tap you for more petting if you stop.

She and her crew came from a neighborhood off Ireland St in Burlington NC. Homeowner inherited 20+ cats back in 2024 when he bought his house. We couldn’t take them all in and some were TNR’d. We took in 12. Of those kitties. 5 are still in foster: Fernando, Queenie, Chiquitita, Tilly, Peanut. One of the kitties escaped the foster in Timberlake NC last year and hasn’t been found since. He was neutered and microchipped. There is a colony of cats nearby he may have taken up with. That foster still has Peanut.

Today has been a milestone day for two kitties staying at the office because they need a foster.

Joey was adopted ~2019 and returned to us last August due to friction with other cats in the home. It took him almost a year to trust and come out of his shell. He’d cry if he was picked up and cry so bad it would break your heart. We have experience with cats like that and know they do eventually come around with patience and love. Joey wasn’t ever super social in his home. When he came back he was rarely to be seen and found refuge in a closet or wood cat litter box enclosure (without the box). About 6 months ago a volunteer was in the office with me and we were just sitting and chatting and hanging out with kitties and all of a sudden here comes Joey walking confidently and curiously to us. He expressed interest in Jenn that day. Then another day he did the same. Then he started coming out to explore more and hang out in other rooms. He is alot more active. Here he is today. He’s not 100% there but he’s made great strides.

It would be traumatic to move him to a foster now after all the progress he’s made so it’s best his next move is a permanent home. We want him to have the best life he can and get more one on one attention. He’s good with other chill cats. I’m so proud of him!

Just went by the store for supplies and saw some catnip pompom toys so picked a few bags. Here’s Chiquitita. The kitties are gonna have a blast.
