Happy birthday to Steve Lacy! 🎉

The Grammy Award-winning singer spoke to Rolling Stone in 2025 about his "fluid" sexuality, saying: "I really love dance, all styles, contemporary, tap, hip-hop. I love modern dance. But growing up, I couldn’t explore that ’cause I never wanted anyone to call me gay before I told them I was anything, gay or whatever, you know?”

He went on to say: “It’d probably be easier if it were just like, ‘I’m g-word,’ but I’m not g-word. It’s fluid, and q***r is a lot harder to explain than just being a gay dude.”

The Place Where Courage Learns to Kneel

The old people said
there are moments in life
when the spirit is asked
to stand alone before the sky.

Not to prove its strength,
but to remember
where its strength came from.

Many mistake power
for noise and sharp edges.
But the elders knew better.

True power walks quietly.
It listens before speaking.
It protects before taking.
And when it must rise,
it rises for others.

There are spirits
sent to remind us of this.

They carry the memory of fire
without becoming destruction.
They carry the memory of grief
without becoming bitterness.

When the world grows heavy,
they lift their eyes
not toward themselves,
but toward the Great Mystery
moving beyond what men can name.

And there, in that sacred silence,
they remember:

We were never meant
to own the earth.
Only to walk it with honor,
to leave kindness in our footprints,
and to keep our hearts brave enough
to remain gentle.
