INTRODUCTION: kente festival is a product of cultural ambassadors/sister city foundation registered in Ghana is a charitable cultural/educational non governmental organization. The Kentefest is an
annual event held to celebrate the rich cultural heritage and the unique cohesion of the people of Ghana, symbolized by the Kente design. Kente represents a rich and vibrant cultural heritage; one that naturally lends itself to celebration. It represents to us the people of Ghana, a certain sense of pride which we want to expose to the world outside.This is the basis of the celebration of KENTEFEST. Regarding the Annual Kent -Fest event 2015, plans are far advanced for the organizers, Ghana Heritage Kente Festival Committee (Cultural Ambassadors Foundation), The Apostolic church int’l Brooklyn Assembly, ARC Foundation, Gh.newsnow & 3G Media to launch the 2015 major edition of the event, dub: 'Kente, a symbol of our unique national cohesion'
Since 2011, we have successfully held this event with a resounding response. With the participating of the Ghana Consulate in New York at the (2013 Kente fest) , we have been able to hold 3 major events to expose our rich culture to the world.In response to popular feedback, we want to expand the scope of the event for this edition. We will do this expanding the scope of our publicity set up, and introducing more elements to the programming. A BRIEF HISTORY OF KENTE
1 Event description –
1.1 Event objectives. The objective of this event is for the organizers to continue with the beautiful contemporary tradition of showcasing the beauty of Ghana through the use of the colorful Kente cloth.
1.2 Scope. The event is proposed to take the form of a showcase night for Kente. Different aspects of the event will include youth seminars, exhibitions outdoors, parks, a night of Ghanaian music and dance interspersed with a catwalk, a photo exhibition, a Kente wearing demonstration, as well as a taste of Ghanaian light cuisine,Ghana restaurant week.
1.3 Event format. The event will be held in a open hall with an embracing setup. The catwalk will feature designs by a renowned fashion designer . The Photo exhibition will be displayed in one part of the setup throughout the event. There will be music and dancing with a live performance featuring the artist, crown of kente King and kente Queen. There will also be a segment where a demonstrator will take patrons through the technique of wearing the Kente toga in different ways.
1.4 Theme, creativity and rationalisation. The theme for the event is 'Kente, a symbol of our unique national cohesion'. This theme is amply projected in how the many colors fuse together to create a beautiful rich pattern. This theme is a metaphor on how important it is as a people to maintain the national balance that keeps Ghana/Africa on the world map as a beacon of peace and an icon of excellence. The overall design for the event will be using different aspects and representations of Kente fused Adinkra symbolism. The primary colors for the event is red, yellow, green and blue (The major colors of the Kente design)
1.5 Identification stakeholders. The chiefs and people the localities where Kente is mainstay, Ghanaians and other Africans living in the Diaspora, Tourists, nightlife patrons, fashion designers, models, creative artists, food and beverage companies, hospitality providers etc.
