Bull Run Mountains Conservancy

Bull Run Mountains Conservancy Bull Run Mountains Conservancy is a nonprofit organization founded to protect the Bull Run Mountains

Bull Run Mountains Conservancy is headquarted on the southern 800 acres of the 2,500 acre Bull Run Mountains Natural Area Preserve, owned and managed by the Virginia Outdoors Foundation. This preserve is just 15 minutes from Manassas, Middleburg and Warrenton Virginia. As the most easternly chain in the Piedmont, the Bull Run Mountains protect unique ecosystems and headwaters of the Occoquan and G

oose Creek watersheds. In addition, Bull Run Mountains are home to a lot of iconic wildlife ranging from copperheads to gold finches. Over this unique geologic landscape, more than 1,000 species of plants and 112 specices of lichens have been formally documented. These mountains are also rich in Virginia and Civil War history. Our living history includes the following; Chapman Family Cemetery, Dawson Family Cemetery, the remains of "Meadowland" the Chapman family dwelling and ice house, hand dug quartzite quarry trench-the site of the a Civil War engagement which took place on August 28th, 1862. BRMC offers educational programs to adults and children, a strong link to local history, and the simple pleasure of walking trails in the Piedmont. At BRMC preservation does not mean a hands-off policy, but rather a focus on drawing people to appreciate the resources at hand and the completion of research to better understand and protect those resources. Our Youth Outdoors Program shows children that the outdoors is fun and exciting, and teaches them that we all have a responsibility to protect and to enhance our public lands and nature.

A huge thank you to everyone who came out to our Town & Country Nature walk on Saturday! We observed an established Purple martin colony where these highly social birds return year after year to raise their young and provide much needed insect control!

If you are interested in these kinds of walks, consider becoming a member to get invites to all these wonderful events.

We also want to thank our program sponsors: Wind River Fund, Spark Good, and the Dominion Energy Charitable Foundation.

A few amazing things you may see when out Bluebird monitoring...

Despite a slow start, our 12 boxes have had 8 successful fledges so far, with more on the way! Our boxes have hosted chickadees, tree swallows, Carolina wrens, and of course bluebirds!

Monitoring is a great way to keep in touch with nature while helping our avian friends.
