The mission of Medbrook Children’s Charity is to support the physical health, well-being and comfort of underprivileged children in and around Harrison County through engagement and financial support from our community. We believe that by assisting in the lives of local underprivileged children, we are not only investing in their individual futures, we are also investing in the future of our commu
nity. To support our mission and effectively serve these children in need, Medbrook Children’s Charity seeks local contributions and corporate sponsorship. Proceeds are distributed to schools and organizations serving disadvantaged children throughout our community. Since our inception in 2000, we have raised more than $1.5 million to fund projects and initiatives to benefit local, underprivileged children. We are a local charity with local leadership and NO paid employees, with a common goal to have a positive impact on our greater community. We established, and continue to be the sole financier for, The School Nurses’ Discretionary Fund. This fund allows the nurses to assist children in need with “minor” medical problems that might otherwise cause their families economic hardship. Worse yet, these medical problems could go completely untreated. We are also the sole financier of the Children’s Apparel Program, which provides funding to every school in Harrison County to be used for the purchase of clothing. The funds are utilized to purchase weather-appropriate clothing for underprivileged students, and are often used to buy a young student their first pair of new shoes. We are a community partner and regularly support special program needs for the Genesis Youth Crisis Center, The Clarksburg Mission, and The Clarksburg League for Service. We support The Greater Clarksburg 10K, encouraging children to exercise in order to combat childhood obesity. We provide complimentary pre-participation sports physicals to local youths regardless of socioeconomic status. The charity has provided this annual service for more than 20 years, having performed over 40,000 free physicals for local student athletes, valued at more than $500,000. We are committed to ensuring no child is prohibited from participating in extracurricular activities because they could not afford the cost of the required physical examination. There are multiple ways to get involved with Medbrook Children’s Charities! Whether you donate dollars or your time and talents, everything you do will help us support children in need in our community. For our golf tournament, we always have need for assistance with set-up and tear down the day of our annual event. No knowledge of golf is needed; just a desire to help and have some fun. During our annual sports physicals, our volunteer duties include set-up and clean up, clerical functions, traffic control, recording height and weight, etc. For those with medical skills, we can always use a hand with taking vital signs and performing the physicals. There are also numerous clerical tasks throughout the year - from as simple as stuffing envelopes to as creative and technical as helping us maintain our website.
