We wanted to share this review of our festival. We get so busy in making it happen that we often don't pause to take it all in. We shared this with the board and committee, and we're sharing it again with you.

It is from Evergreen Echo, which we are not familiar with, but they have content many of you would enjoy. From their website: "As a creative cooperative, The Echo strives to amplify local voices—particularly in underrepresented communities—to create meaningful connections and satisfy a crucial need for local journalism through the lens of the arts. We are proudly powered by humans and remain generative AI-free."

The first pride was a riot, really more of a rebellion. So you can imagine my internal preparation as I braced for another corporatized Pride to leave a bad taste in my mouth. Luckily I had nothing to fear at the Kitsap Pride Festival.

Our hearts are with the LGBTQ+ community in Berlin after the attack on Christopher Street Day / Berlin Pride on July 25th, which killed one person and injured dozens more. What should have been a celebration of love and visibility became a scene of violence and grief.

This is a painful reminder that the fight for safety and acceptance is far from over — in Berlin, and here at home too. Kitsap Pride stands in solidarity with our siblings across the world. We grieve with them, we hold them in our hearts, and we recommit to building spaces where our community can gather, celebrate, and simply exist without fear.

To everyone processing this: you are not alone, and you belong here.

In partnership with Kitsap Regional Library, participate in a book group focused on celebrating identity, pride, and what makes you, you! LGBTQIA+ identifying and allies welcome. For teens aged 14-18.
July's book selection is If I was Your Girl by Meredith Russo and our theme for the month is coming out stories.
Teens can pick up a copy of the selected book ahead of time, free to keep, at the MLK branch (612 5th St; Bremerton).
Read our selected title or bring a title of your own to share and discuss.
