River Valley Special Recreation Association River Valley Special Rec creates inclusive opportunities for people with special needs to have fun and find fulfillment. The R.V.S.R.A.

is an association formed by member agencies to provide community-based Therapeutic Recreation to individuals with disabilities or special needs. Member agencies provide the primary source of operational revenue through a property tax levy available to the Park Districts who have entered into a cooperative agreement. Our member districts are: Bourbonnais Township Park District, Kankakee Valley Par

A special thank you to the Kankakee City Police Officers who joined us for our Cop at Cobb program and spent time with our participants. From exploring the police vehicles to trying fingerprinting and learning more about what officers do, fun was had by all!

Travel Tuesday took us on an adventure through downtown Kankakee!

Our participants started the day with a tour of the B Harley Bradley House, where participants took part in fun, hands-on activities. A big thank you to the staff at Wright in Kankakee for making the experience so memorable!

The adventure continued with lunch at Lori’s, a driving tour of downtown’s murals, and a sweet afternoon treat at Awaken.

Have you spotted our new van out and about in the community?

During the devastating storm in March, one of our agency vans was totaled-just as we were preparing to head into our busiest season of the year. Thanks to the incredible support of the River Valley Special Recreation Foundation (RVSRF), we were able to replace it with a brand-new 2026 Ford Transit!

The Foundation helps provide financial support for River Valley Special Rec through the generosity of donors and proceeds from fundraising events throughout the year. Because of that support, we can continue creating inclusive opportunities and making sure participants have the transportation and resources they need to join in the joy. 💙

📣 We’re Hiring: Program Leader!

River Valley Special Rec is looking for a confident, dependable leader to join our team!

Program Leaders are responsible for leading and implementing recreation programs using pre-developed program plans, supervising Program Aides and volunteers, supporting participants, and creating a positive and inclusive program experience.

What we’re looking for:
⭐ Strong leadership and communication skills
⭐ Ability to independently lead programs and follow established program plans
⭐ Experience working with individuals with disabilities preferred
⭐ Ability to adapt activities to meet participant needs
⭐ Availability for weekday evening and weekend programs
⭐ Must be at least 21 years old and willing to drive RVSRA vehicles, including our 14-passenger bus and agency van

💰 $17–$19/hour
⏰ Part-time, up to 16 hours/week

No formal experience is required, but candidates should be dependable, comfortable taking the lead, and committed to creating inclusive recreation experiences.
