Food system news: You did it! We did it! It has been done!

Together we reached our ambitious NH Gives goal of transforming a generous $10K match from the Matthew 25: 34-40 Foundation into $20K to support Kearsarge Food Hub’s mission-driven work.

In fact, 54 individuals came together to help us exceed this goal, including an unexpected offline donation of $2,500.

As we shared during this 24 hour campaign, this work is nearly 100% community-powered.

Every donation of fresh produce to a local pantry, every purchase from a local farm, every kid that gets outside in the garden is made possible by YOU!

You donations are literally funding the transition to a more equitable, sustainable, and JOYFUL future for all of us.

If you weren’t in a position to donate, that’s ok! There’s a lot of work ahead and so many ways to contribute beyond a financial contribution. True food sovereignty requires different kinds of participation from all of us, and the most beautiful thing? It nourishes all of us, too.

Fresh, whole foods matter. Foods grown without synthetic pesticides matter. Long-term health outcomes for all our neighbors matter.

At the Kearsarge Food Hub, we are advocating for a shift from basic food security to true nutrition security.

Providing fresh-picked greens and root vegetables to local food pantries isn't "inefficient"—it is a baseline standard of community care and mutual respect.

When we relegate families facing financial hardship to cheap, industrial food while reserving fresh, local food for those who can afford it, we perpetuate a deep injustice.

Our community agrees. A neighbor who regularly uses our Community FREEdge recently shared:

“We love the fresh food and quality items in the FREEdge. Unfortunately 'FREE’ food is often low quality, chemicalized and processed.”

People right here in our Kearsarge community face food insecurity every day.

Between 1,500 to 1,800 of our neighbors regularly do not have enough food to eat, while 250 students in the Kearsarge School District are on free and reduced lunch.

Meanwhile, unstable supply chains threaten food access for all of us. From trade disruptions to climate change wreaking havoc on the harvests we all rely on to eat, the need to invest in our local food system is greater than ever.

Local food from local farms can't just be a luxury that some of us can afford. It needs to be accessible to all of us.
