🎓 Meet Gabriel Amestoy and Gabriela Spagnuolo, a mother-and-son team whose adult education journey led them both to graduation!

After years of putting her family first, Gabriela returned to Hartford Public Schools Adult Education to earn her high school diploma. Gabriel joined her, and together they attended classes, encouraged one another, and graduated just months apart.

Their achievement inspired Gabriel to pursue college, while Gabriela plans to continue her English studies and explore a career in the culinary field.

Their story reminds us that it is never too late to pursue an education—and that some accomplishments are even more meaningful when achieved together. Congratulations, Gabriel and Gabriela! 🎉

Meet Sabrina Alva, an inspiring adult learner from Indiana! 🎓

After moving to the United States from Haiti, Sabrina enrolled in Wayne Township Adult Education to strengthen her English, earn her high school equivalency diploma, and pursue a future in information technology.

While adjusting to a new language and culture, she worked toward two major goals at once—and achieved both! Sabrina earned her HSE diploma and completed the Cisco Certified Network Associate certification.

She plans to continue earning industry certifications as she builds toward a career in IT. Sabrina’s story reminds us that determination, education, and the right support can open doors to incredible new possibilities.

A college degree can open doors—and for eligible adult learners in New York, SUNY Reconnect can help make that degree more accessible.

SUNY Reconnect provides eligible New Yorkers ages 25–55 without a college degree with a pathway to a free associate degree in high-demand fields, including healthcare, cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, technology, advanced manufacturing, renewable energy, and more.

The program can cover tuition, fees, books, and supplies after other available financial aid is applied.

It’s another example of how education and workforce development can come together to create new opportunities for adult learners.

The California Apprenticeship Council provides training fund grants to approved multi-employer apprenticeship programs.

These funds come from required contributions made by contractors working on public works projects. They support high-quality apprenticeship training and help strengthen California’s skilled trades as experienced journeypersons retire.

Funds are distributed to eligible programs serving the same craft or trade and geographic area where the contributions were collected. The application deadline is September 10, 2026.
