✨ How Tall Was George Washington? ✨
A reproduction of George Washington’s 1789 inaugural night suit can offer some surprising clues! 🔍 The original silk suit was worn by Washington on the evening of his inauguration in 1789.

Washington is estimated to have stood roughly 6 feet 2–3 inches tall, with a chest measurement of about 42 inches and a waist measurement of 34–38 inches. To help put those measurements into perspective, take a look at our photo of Ranger Hazel, who stands 6 feet 3 inches tall, next to the reproduction.

👉 Come see the suit—and compare its size for yourself—at the Washington Headquarters Museum!

On this week in Morris County history...
The 27th NJ Vols held their 11th annual reunion on October 23, 1902. 40 years after the regiment was first mustered, 64 of its veterans marched in Morristown led by the Morristown Flute & Drum Corps. Heavily drawn from Morris County, the 27th served in the Civil War from September 1862 to July 1863 and fought at the Battle of Fredericksburg. The regiment's reunions, begun in 1893, would continue into the 1920s. Ribbons from many of their earliest reunions are now in MCHS collections.

A gang of thieves once hid on Pyramid Mountain, and you can hike to the ruins.

The Morris County Park Commission leads a Morgan Ruins Night Hike on Monday, October 26, from 5 to 7 PM at Pyramid Mountain Natural Historic Area on Boonton Avenue.

A guide takes the group along darkened trails to what is left of the Morgan gang's old hideout and tells their story along the way.

It's $15 a person, for ages 13 and up with an adult, and you register through Morris Parks. Bring a flashlight.

Would you do this one after dark, or save the ruins for a daytime hike?
