Meet our new 2026/2027 staff representative Katie Huggins!

Katie wears many hats in life: wife, mother, teacher, gardener, coffee enthusiast, and artist. She was born and raised in Sandpoint and moved to Bonners Ferry, where she met her husband. Together, we they have four wonderful children, ages 23, 20, 18, and 15. Last summer they gained a fifth when their daughter married. “ I love how families grow and become more complete, including my Mt Hall family.”

“I have enjoyed teaching children at Mt Hall for nine of my 29 years as an educator. Beginning this year, I will be working alongside parents in a new capacity as the PTO staff representative. As a teacher and parent of children who went to Mt Hall, I appreciate all the love and hard work our families have put into our students and school. The longstanding legacy of our PTO can be seen in the improvements, opportunities, and memories that our students carry with them into middle school. Through PTO support we are able to celebrate student growth, success, and character at our all-school parties. We are able to offer amazing events including but not limited to Arts in April, an annual carnival, field trips, and resources for classrooms that enrich our students and teaching because of family and community support.
Our Mt Hall family is a place where growth is celebrated, people are cherished, and we strive to work together to make our school a better place.”

Meet Rachel the new 2026/2027 PTO secretary!

Rachel has been teaching 3rd grade at Mount Hall for 5 years and absolutely loves being part of the school community. One of the things that makes Mount Hall so special to her is that she is involved not only as a teacher but also as a parent.
Rachel has four children in BCSD. One currently attends Mount Hall, while the others are in middle school and high school. Her family has been part of the BCSD community for many years through both her career as an educator and her children’s experiences as students. She joined the PTO board because she believes strongly in the partnership between families, teachers, and our school. She wants parents to feel welcomed, valued, and encouraged to be involved because every contribution makes a difference.

What are you most excited about this coming school year? “I’m excited to continue building connections with families and working together to support our students and teachers. I look forward to seeing our school community come together for fun events and meaningful opportunities throughout the year.”

What is your favorite PTO event or activity? “My favorite part of PTO is seeing families come together at school events and watching the positive impact that our fundraising efforts have on students and teachers.”

What is one thing you would love parents and families to know about the PTO? “I want families to know that what they do to help truly matters. Whether you volunteer your time, attend an event, or support a fundraiser, every effort contributes to the success of our students and school community.”

If you could describe our school community in three words, what would they be? “Supportive, welcoming, and dedicated.”

What advice would you give to someone thinking about getting involved with the PTO? “Jump in! You don’t have to commit a lot of time to make a difference. The PTO is a great place to meet other families, support our school, and contribute to the success of all our kids.”

Meet Shyann Hoover. Vice president for our 2026/2027 school year!

“I was born and raise here in Bonners Ferry. I love gardening , canning and baking. I have 3 littles who are 9,6 and 4 and 2 bonus boys who are 23 and 17.
My kids are 4th generation MT Hall kids. My grandparents attended Mt hall along with me and my mom and now my kids. I decided to join the PTO after sending time volunteering at the school and watching the kids thrive and enjoying the PTO events. I have a leadership personality and love to help out around the school and the community. I am also currently a volunteer as a swine leader for our local 4-H.
My favorite PTO event is all of them. The kids really enjoy and look forward to each event and watching there excitement keep me coming back for each event. If I described MT Hall in 3 words it would be “feels like home”. If anyone has thought about volunteering with the PTO please just reach out. We are all very willing to help get you involved.”

Meet DeeAnna Racer our 2026/2027 PTO communications officer.
DeeAnna is a Bonners Ferry native who has been a part of the Mount hall school community for almost 3 years. She has 5 children, 3 of which attend Mount Hall in second, third and fifth grade.
DeeAnna’s hobbies include baking, boating and fishing. She spends most of her time on the go for her children’s sports as they compete in wrestling and love football, ballet and soccer. She joined the PTO board last year because she loves to help and volunteer in anything her children are involved in. Her favorite pto event would not specifically be an event but the monthly PBIS parties we assist with. She loved seeing the children’s faces light up to what the new theme would be each month.

What is one thing you would love parents and families to know about the PTO? “That we don’t just do fundraising. We support the school in so many ways from funding arts in April to purchasing items for school parties to the big fundraising events.”

If you could describe our school community in three words, what would they be? “Close-knit, welcoming and supportive.”

What advice would you give to someone thinking about getting involved with the PTO? “That we welcome any help even if you just want to pop in to a meeting or volunteer for a party. We love all the help we can get!”

I especially enjoy gardening, traveling, and generally adventuring.” She has one child in first grade, and 3 bonus children in middle/high school. She has been part of our school community for a few years.
Bethany joined the PTO board because she believes in community and wanted to be part of maintaining that at our school. She is most excited to build friendships through volunteering this coming school year!

What is your favorite PTO event or activity? “I am still working on experiencing all of the PTO activities, but I am really looking forward to this coming year’s auction program.”
