The 1st annual, Boundary County Farm and Forest Discovery Day welcomed 113 5th grade students for a hands-on day of learning focused on local agriculture, forestry, and natural resources. Throughout the day, students had the opportunity to hear directly from local farmers, ranchers, foresters, and community partners who shared their knowledge and passion for the industries that help shape Boundary County.
With the help of members from the Bonners Ferry High School FFA Organization, local 4-H families and their animals, and an incredible group of presenters, students rotated through eleven interactive stations featuring hands-on activities, demonstrations, and educational experiences.
Special thanks go out to Samuel DeGrey with the University of Idaho Extension, Tracy Iverson, and Mary Ann Mosley for helping man the thank you table; Boundary County commissioners Ben Robertson and Les Pinkerton for running the forest table; Liz Wood with the Bonner and Boundary County Cattle Association; Maureen Mai for sharing about tractors and equipment; representatives from the Idaho Department of Fish and Game and the Idaho Department of Lands; Cassie Olson and Alicia Alexander for helping create an engaging and educational experience for students.
A special thank you also goes to Super 1 Foods and Grocery Outlet, along with Woods Meat Processing and Farm-to-Market grains, for helping provide lunch for students, volunteers, and presenters. Their generosity helped make the day even more memorable.
The Boundary County Farm and Forest Discovery Day was made possible through the collaboration of the Boundary County Fairgrounds, University of Idaho Extension, and the Boundary County Farm Bureau. Together, these organizations created a meaningful educational experience that connected local youth with the people, industries, and resources that continue to play an important role in Boundary County.
