October is Dyslexia Awareness Month!

Dyslexia can make learning to read more challenging, but it does not define a person’s intelligence, potential, or future. With the right support, students with dyslexia can build the skills and confidence they need to thrive.

Many individuals with dyslexia have become successful entrepreneurs, scientists, artists, writers, athletes, educators, and leaders, proving that learning differently doesn’t limit big dreams.

We’re so proud to celebrate our very own Erin Miller, who was recently highlighted by the Wassmuth Center for Human Rights! We couldn’t have said it better ourselves.

Erin is such an invaluable part of LPLC, bringing genuine care and compassion to the clients we serve, along with a wealth of knowledge and understanding for those who learn differently.

Meet Erin Miller, a dedicated advocate and community connector at the Lee Pesky Learning Center, where she serves as Intake & Outreach Coordinator and Academic Coach. As someone deeply committed to equity and inclusion, Erin's passion for advocating for individuals with disabilities and marginalized groups is woven throughout her decade-long career in education and developmental support. Her work centers on bringing compassion and voice to individuals who need it most, ensuring that everyone has access to the resources and support they deserve.

A proud Boise State alum, Erin holds a Bachelor of Arts in Multi-Disciplinary Studies with an emphasis in Communication. Her interdisciplinary approach integrates crisis management, motivational interviewing, and applied behavior analysis to create inclusive, client-centered environments that foster growth and self-efficacy. From coaching neurodiverse students to achieve their goals to advocating for competitive employment opportunities for adults with developmental disabilities, Erin has built her career on the belief that every person deserves dignity, opportunity, and belonging.

Erin's calm communication strategy and authentic approach help families navigate stressful situations, making complex systems more approachable and ensuring that no one falls through the cracks. She develops impactful programs from vision to implementation, always centering the voices and needs of those she serves.

Beyond her professional work, Erin brings healing to her community by facilitating sound baths and meditation sessions, helping individuals regulate their nervous systems and find moments of peace and restoration in their daily lives.

As a Wassmuth Human Rights Education Fellow, Erin is part of a vibrant community of educators dedicated to placing human rights at the center of their work. Together, Fellows are reimagining education as a powerful force for justice and joy.

April is a mission-driven nonprofit professional with more than a decade of experience in corporate partnerships, event planning, annual giving, grant writing, and relationship-building. Most recently, she served as Account Director of Corporate Partnerships with the Muscular Dystrophy Association, developing strategic partnerships and fundraising initiatives to support families living with neuromuscular diseases.

April is passionate about helping everyone feel seen, supported, and empowered. As Advancement Director, she looks forward to building relationships with LPLC’s supporters, foundations, corporate partners, and community leaders while collaborating with the Board to advance our mission of creating a pathway to learning for everyone.

Meet another member of our 2026 Running for Learning Team!

We’re excited to welcome David Burton from Brooklyn to this year’s team as he prepares to take on his first marathon in support of Lee Pesky Learning Center!
