We read for many different reasons, and sometimes it's to learn about the life others have experienced that may be very different from our own. "Armaveni" by Nadine Takvorian is an autobiographical graphic novel about her experience growing up Armenian-American. I learned history I had not heard of before, and was captivated by the simple but emotionally evocative illustrations. If you are looking for an easy format to read about a hard topic, I highly recommend non-fiction graphic novels, starting with this one. *Trigger warning: this book mentions genocide.*

If you need a sweet reminder to slow down and enjoy the simple things in life, Miss Amy recommends you and your child read Every Monday Mabel by Jashar Awan. Mabel's very favorite day of the week is Monday because that's when the garbage truck comes! Everyone in her family is too busy to stop and see, but it is the highlight of Mabel's week. Sometimes slowing down enough to see the simple things through children's eyes is exactly what we need to do!

Aisle Nine by Ian X. Cho follows a teenage nobody named Jasper as he works as a checkout clerk at the Here For You discount mart. A job that would already be terrible, and is made all the more so by the hell portal that has taken over aisle nine. Navigating a soul-crushing teenage job and an unrequited crush, Jasper also has to deal with his recently developed case of amnesia and a world in which demons can appear to maul and kill people at any time. When Jasper begins to suspect that the hell portal problem may be escalating and a full-on apocalypse may be impending, he wonders if he may be losing what is left of his mind. This book is full of realistic characters facing hilariously unrealistic problems. With strong emotional depth and enough humor to balance the darker themes and subjects in the plot, this book is a fun adventure read that is recommended for teens and young adults.
