This winter, our Club continued a tried and true tradition and delivered “non-powered word definition devices,” as member Lee VonGunten coined dictionaries, to each 3rd grader at Bluffton-Harrison Metropolitan School District, Southern Wells Community Schools, and Northern Wells Community Schools.

Through the years, our Club has delivered 6,600 dictionaries to students. We are committed to fostering the pursuit of lifelong education and empowering young learners.

Did you know 191 elementary schoolers in Wells County are delivered a bag full of food each Friday to address weekend food insecurity? Our Club is always happy to provide service in helping Feeding Tomorrow’s Future Today make this a reality. This week, we gathered to pack this week’s 191 bags and to learn more about the program.

Here are a few snapshots of recent community service involvement by our members.

#1 Howard Rich Pavilion - It’s important to our Club to do our part to maintain the beautiful River Greenway by regularly caring for a pavilion named in honor of a former Rotarian and late, esteemed community member, Howard Rich.

#2 Forgotten Children Worldwide - Another consistent community service project of Bluffton Rotary is sorting and folding clothes at FCW, which we did just last month. It’s always a blessing for us to hear updates on the ministry from the FCW team and how we can pray for and support their efforts.

Serving Adams, Wells, Allen, and the surrounding counties, New Heights Ag LLC, owned by Chris Steele, utilizes drone technology to assist local farmers in seeding and spraying. Chris, along with employee Conner Schwartz, shared about the company’s development and how they’ve been able to partner with area farmers for more accurate and efficient agricultural production… and they brought a prop!

Rotary culture is all about giving back! To end 2024, our Club raised over $10,000 for the Wells County Food Bank. Last November and December, the food bank assisted 250 families in need. We extend a huge “thank you” to the volunteers and other local individuals and businesses who team up each year to ensure our community’s food insecurities are met.
