Out in the wild and still on mission. šŸ’›

Hope Center volunteers are attending the Unmasked Mental Health Conference—investing in learning so we can keep showing up well for our community.

Growth doesn’t stop at our doors.

Throwback Thursday to a few weeks ago at Mai Fest when we had the honor of welcoming the Mayor of Blue Island to visit us again! šŸ™ŒāœØ

It was such a special moment seeing familiar faces and remembering that this wasn’t the first time. Back in 2024, the Mayor also stopped by to support and connect with our mission. Moments like these remind us how far we’ve come and how meaningful community support truly is.

Grateful for every conversation, every visit, and every opportunity to keep building together šŸ’›

The work doesn’t stop at the harvest. 🌱

This week, we finished our spring harvest in the greenhouse, and it was a really good one.

Our volunteers led the process from start to finish, working together to bring it all in.

And almost right away, they began again—planting summer crops like tomatoes and continuing to grow the garden across both indoor and outdoor spaces.

It’s a steady rhythm. One that doesn’t always feel big in the moment, but over time, it’s what sustains everything.

This is how we grow.
This is how we keep going.

✨ Meet the Team ✨

Geno’s story is what Hope Center is all about. šŸ’›

A Blue Island resident with family roots here going back 100 years, Geno first came to Hope Center as a volunteer — helping start our Indoor Garden Program while balancing college and work.

Today, he’s leading that same program as Director — expanding our growing spaces, launching our aquaponics lab, and creating hands-on opportunities for others to learn and grow. 🌱

With over 15 years in sustainability and urban agriculture, Geno is passionate about building something that lasts — not just plants, but people.

From volunteer… to leader… to mentor.

That’s the kind of growth we believe in.

This is what summer looked like last year. šŸ‘‡

Not just a camp, a place where they tried new things, built real skills, and grew in confidence.

That’s what we’re bringing back.

Only 50 spots available this year, and they won’t last.

If this is the kind of summer you want for your child, now’s the time to sign up.

This picture was taken right in the middle of COVID — uncertain times, masks on, and so much changing around us. But even then, Hope Center kept growing.

Looking back, it was also the season where Hope Center began shifting from simply giving things away to truly teaching, equipping, and empowering people for lasting change.

So thankful for every person who was part of the journey during those hard but meaningful days. šŸ’›
