🌿 BHHT Volunteer Day: Blue Hill Mountain Leaf & Ditch Cleanup
Thursday, November 5 | 12–3 PM

Help us wrap up our 2026 Volunteer Work Days with one last afternoon on Blue Hill Mountain! We'll be raking leaves and clearing drainage ditches along the service trail to help prevent erosion and keep water flowing.

📍 Meet at the Blue Hill Mountain Hayes Trail parking lot (the large parking lot at the top of the hill).

🍎 Friends From the Field: The History & Future of Our Apple Trees

Thursday, November 5 | 4–5 PM Online via Zoom

Join Community Tree Steward Jonny Givelber for an interesting look at the history of apple trees in our region and how we can help care for and preserve these special trees for future generations.

Discover the fascinating work of the Deer Isle Apple Corps and learn more about the secrets and potential of our local apples!

Come dressed in costume (or not), walk the trail, admire the pumpkins, and grab some candy! 🍬 Enjoy lots of Halloween fun while learning more about the Blue Hill Heritage Trust.

🍂 A Reminder: Fi***rm Season Starts This Weekend in Maine! 🦌

This weekend marks the start of fi***rm season in Maine! Hunting has long been a part of Maine’s heritage, connecting generations to our forests, wildlife, and the traditions that make our state special.

Blue Hill Heritage Trust is proud to offer hunting opportunities on most of our properties, and we ask everyone to be mindful, respectful, and safe while enjoying our shared lands this time of year.

Annual registration is required to hunt on BHHT properties. You can register through our website: https://bluehillheritagetrust.org/hunting-on-bhht-lands/ or by visiting us at 157 Hinckley Ridge Road in Blue Hill, please call beforehand. Don't get caught wishing you had gotten permission sooner! Please allow 2-4 business days for your hunting application to be processed and permission to be granted.

🍁 A Few Friendly Reminders for Hunters and Hikers:

📷 Please do not touch or disturb anyone’s game cameras or tree stands. If you have a concern, contact BHHT directly.

🦺 Always be aware of your surroundings and wear blaze orange when spending time in the woods.

🐕 Walking your dog? Make sure they wear blaze orange, too!

🌲 Hunting is not permitted in Maine on Sundays, making it a great day to enjoy the trails during hunting season.

🥾 Looking for a quieter place to hike? Carter Nature Preserve and Furth Talalay in Surry are both wonderful options to visit this time of year, as hunting is not permitted on these properties.

🎃 Our Pumpkin Promenade is almost here! 🎃

Look at these fantastic pumpkins that were dropped off yesterday! We also had the pleasure of visiting the Healthy Peninsula Walk-In Café yesterday, where we decorated and carved some amazing pumpkins. What a wonderful time!

Our Pumpkin Promenade will be ready later today along the John Murphy Trail, behind the Blue Hill Congregational Church, and will be on display all weekend long! The trail is open day and night, with optimal viewing of the illuminated pumpkins at dusk! 🍂🎃

We hope you’ll stop by, enjoy the creativity, and take a stroll through our pumpkin filled trail!

Registration Open: Landowner 101 course

Join the Maine Forest Service and community partners for a FREE course on sustainable forestry. Topics include wildlife habitat, ecological diversity, forest health, woodland management, and more! Anyone interested can attend.

When: November 16 - 20, 5:30 - 7:30 PM (five sessions)
Where: Bucksport High School, 102 Broadway, Bucksport

The course is offered in partnership with Maine Forest Service, RSU 25 Adult and Community Education, Maine Woodland Owners, and Maine Tree Farm. Registration closes Nov. 12 and has a capacity of 30 people.

Take a leisurely walk along our accessible trail while reading Bread and Jam for Frances by Russell Hoban! The trail is great for strollers, walkers, and wheelchairs.

🎃 Pumpkin Carving with the Walk-in Café
Wednesday, October 28 | 9:30–11:30 AM
First Congregational Church, 22 Tenney Hill, Blue Hill
Join BHHT staff at Healthy Peninsula’s Walk-in Café for pumpkin carving, refreshments, and conversation! We’ll be preparing pumpkins for our annual Pumpkin Promenade. Some pumpkins will be provided, but feel free to bring your own. No registration required, and everyone is welcome!

Calling all pumpkin carvers! Help us fill the trail with glowing jack-o’-lanterns for the community to enjoy. Drop off your carved pumpkins at the BHHT office on October 28 or at the John Murphy Trailhead by 8 AM on October 29. Then come back to enjoy the glowing display throughout the afternoons and evenings, October 29–31!

We’re so thrilled to offer a new Storybook Trail in collaboration with Word. Blue Hill Literary Arts Festival ! A huge thank you to Blue Hill Books for purchasing the books and helping make this wonderful addition possible!

If you haven’t visited yet, head over to the John Murphy Trail and enjoy Bread and Jam for Frances by Russell Hoban. It’s a fun way to get outside, explore the trail, and enjoy a favorite children’s story along the way!

Calling all pumpkin carvers! 🧡 We want to see your spooky, silly, creative, and downright BOO-tiful masterpieces! 🕸️✨

Bring your carved pumpkins to us and we’ll add them to the Murphy Trail in Blue Hill for everyone to enjoy! 🍂🎃

The trail will glow with jack-o’-lanterns and fun Halloween spirit on October 29, 30 and 31! 🧡🦇

🎃 How to join the fun: Carve your best pumpkin 👻 Bring it to BHHT so we can add it to the trail 🕷 Take a walk along the trail and enjoy!

The more pumpkins, the more magical the trail! So grab your carving tools, get creative, and help us make this a spook-tacular display! 🧡
