Check out what’s been happening at Patten Stream over the last few weeks! 🌿🔨

Our interns and volunteers have been hard at work preparing the trail and building the foundations for the new bridges! Thanks to their dedication, this exciting project is well underway.

This work has been made possible through support from an AllTrails Stewards Fund Grant, helping us improve access and ensure visitors can continue to enjoy Patten Stream for years to come.

This section of the North Loop is still temporarily closed until construction is complete.

Stay tuned for more updates as the project progresses!

We are thrilled to have three interns with us this summer! 🌿☀️

Casey, our Richard G. Rockefeller Conservation Intern, recently returned from a week of training with Maine Coast Heritage Trust and is ready to dive into a summer of hands-on conservation work.

We're excited to support Casey throughout the season and look forward to sharing highlights from their experiences and the important work they'll be doing here at Blue Hill Heritage Trust. Stay tuned!

🌲BHHT's Outreach & Education department was thrilled to join Woodlawn and a wonderful group of partners for the 3rd annual Back to the Forest Day. Nearly 70 local 5th graders spent the day learning about Maine's forests through hands-on activities and exploration.

Thanks to everyone who made this incredible day possible!

🌊🐟 Look what our Outreach & Education Department has been up to!

Alewife Adventure Day brought students and community members together to learn about one of the Blue Hill Peninsula’s most incredible natural migrations—the annual return of alewives from the ocean to our local ponds and streams.

Through hands-on activities, exploration, and learning opportunities, students discovered why these small fish play such a big role in the health of our local ecosystems and the importance of protecting migratory fish habitat.

A huge thank you to everyone who joined us for a day of outdoor learning and discovery, and a special thank you to Sarah O’Malley from Maine Maritime Academy and Mike Thalhauser from Maine Coast Heritage Trust. Programs like this help connect people of all ages to the natural world and inspire the next generation of conservation stewards.

Your generous, tax-deductible, financial contributions ensure that we can continue to protect Blue Hill Peninsula’s land & water resources for generations to come.

🌲Trail Update – Patten Stream Preserve 🌲

BHHT’s stewardship team has been hard at work this spring at Patten Stream Preserve, completing the North Loop bridge installations and trail restoration project.🛠️

🥾To ensure visitor safety while bridge construction is underway, a section of the North Loop Trail will remain temporarily closed.

Good things take time, and we promise the improvements will be worth the wait!👀

🙌🏼 We are grateful to AllTrails for supporting this work through the 2025 AllTrails Stewards Fund. Their investment is helping us improve trail access and enhance the visitor experience for years to come.

Thank you for your patience and support as we complete this exciting project.

Unfortunately, we have recently had multiple incidents at Hundred Acre Wood in Brooklin involving chickens being left on the property and illegal trash dumping.

Hundred Acre Wood is a conservation property that provides important wildlife habitat and a place for the community to enjoy nature. Abandoning domestic animals and dumping trash can harm wildlife, damage natural resources, endanger animals, and create challenges for property management.

We ask all visitors and community members to help us care for this special place by properly disposing of waste and ensuring that pets and livestock are not left unattended or abandoned.

If you witness illegal dumping or have information about these incidents, please contact Blue Hill Heritage Trust at 207-374-5118 or by emailing [email protected].

Thank you for helping us protect and steward our conservation lands for everyone to enjoy.
