Every year, the Oakland County Bar Foundation’s Signature Event brings together members of the legal community, business leaders, and friends of the Foundation for an evening with a purpose that reaches far beyond the event itself.

Sponsorship opportunities provide critical funding to nonprofit organizations serving individuals and families who need help the most. Those dollars become meaningful outcomes: families reunited, parents better able to provide for their kids, children receiving critical support, and seniors gaining access to vital legal and community resources.

What happens when an innovative idea gets the support it needs?

Thanks to an Oakland County Bar Foundation grant, Justice Speaks Legal Aid transformed from a new nonprofit concept into a functioning interdisciplinary legal and social work program serving families in crisis.

OCBF's early investment helped JSLA secure additional statewide funding, build essential infrastructure, establish referral systems, develop community partnerships, and begin delivering services to vulnerable families throughout Oakland County.

This is exactly why OCBF invests in access to justice initiatives: helping promising programs become life-changing realities.

Behind every approved application is a person, a family, and a future.

Through OCBF-funded services, La Casa Amiga Legal Clinic filed 67 immigration benefit applications, including green card renewals, work permits, DACA renewals, and travel documents. To date, 40 of those applications have already been approved.

These approvals help individuals maintain the ability to live and work legally in the United States, keep their driver's licenses, support their families, and remain active members of our community.

This is the power of access to justice.

As we continue another year here at OCBF, we extend our sincere gratitude to these dedicated leaders for their outstanding service on the OCBF Board of Trustees as they conclude their terms.

While we are sad to see them leave the Board, we are pleased to share that Michael Turco will continue supporting the Foundation as an Emeritus Trustee. We are also deeply grateful for Chuck Bullock’s commitment to the OCBF's mission and the lasting impact of his service.

Thank you to each of these trustees for their leadership, dedication, and unwavering support of the Foundation and its work.

After 13 months of uncertainty, Michael finally had a way forward.

When Michael came to Lakeshore Legal Aid’s FLAP clinic, he was struggling to navigate his divorce on his own. A volunteer attorney helped him get started, and Lakeshore secured continued pro bono representation.

With that support, Michael obtained a consent judgment of divorce, including a fair division of property and debt.

More than a legal outcome, he gained closure, stability and the ability to move forward.

This is the impact of OCBF grant funding. This is the power of pro bono service.

Together, we can open more doors to justice for Oakland County residents.
