This morning I walked in to find Mama laying like this, which I love to see. She looks relaxed and happy and also it gives those puppies more access for feeding. It was wonderful to see, with everyone having more room to get in there and nurse.

Of course, all our fosters love their super-soft Max and Neo blankets that you see often in my pics. We’re so thankful to everyone who sent them as gifts during their yearly sale. They’re getting lots of use keeping our foster babies cozy and comfortable!

Other than our chocolate merle girl, everyone continues to gain nicely. Thrilled to see our blue merle girl who had been struggling, gaining 20 grams consistently the last 2 days.

Now we just need the weight of our chocolate to get moving in the right direction. She’s finally nursing strongly from Mama and taking the bottle well, which is encouraging. Now if the scale would reflect that we would be happy.

We’ll continue supplementing her, try offering those extra feedings more frequently, and keep a close eye on the scale. Come on, little girl, so many are rooting for you!

I updated our wish list last night and have names picked out for this family too, so that post is coming later today.

Focus now is getting that scale number 🆙 🆙 🆙!!!

A big THANK YOU to Angela, Dawn, and Shannon for sending these wonderful gifts for our fosters! And so many!!!

From keeping little bellies full to giving our kitties places to scratch, play, and snuggle, your kindness helps us care for this very busy foster household. We’re so grateful for your support!

We also received litter and another box without gift notes. If you sent either of those deliveries, please let us know so we can thank you, too!

Who knew piling onto the scale ALL AT ONCE could be so much fun? Our little band apparently decided this weigh-in should be a group performance. 😂

Then it was time to pile into their “tour bus.” Okay, it’s a little wooden cat house, but with enough imagination, it’s a rock star bus—and everyone wants a seat! 🚌🎶

Mama came along to supervise, but keeping this band under control is clearly a full-time job.

Our little rock stars are growing up! Mama Kiss’s babies are now 3 weeks, 3 days old, and Mama Purrl Jam’s babies are 3 weeks, 1 day old! 🎸🐾

❤️ A little note from our adoption coordinator

We know everyone is excited about our new mama and her babies, and we appreciate how much you already care about this little family.

Right now, our priority is making sure Mama is healthy, comfortable, well nourished, and relaxed, and that her babies are nursing well, gaining weight, and thriving. Having already lost one precious puppy, we are taking this fragile stage one day at a time.

We are NOT accepting adoption inquiries or applications for this family yet, and we are not reserving individual puppies.

PLEASE HELP UP by holding off on adoption questions in the comments, Messenger notes, emails, and text messages. Even well meaning inquiries add up, and there simply aren’t enough hours in the day to respond individually.

Our foster family is providing care around the clock for Mama and her puppies, the kittens and other animals in their care, and their own beloved pets.

Our adoption team is also working on applications for animals who will be ready for homes much sooner. Keeping inquiries about this new family to a minimum gives everyone more time for the animals who need them.

We anticipate sharing application information in approximately five weeks, depending on how Mama and her babies are doing. That will begin the application process, not mean the puppies are ready to leave.

When the time comes, we will explain the next steps, including application reviews, interviews, veterinary reference checks, meet and greets, etc.

We also are not allowing visits to this family. Visits will wait until the puppies have been examined by our veterinarian, are considered healthy, have received their first vaccinations, and we determine they are ready. At that time approved applicants will come out by appointment.

In the meantime, they receive plenty of gentle handling and socialization from their foster family and trusted, longtime volunteers who follow our health and sanitation protocols. Limiting visitors is part of protecting very vulnerable babies and keeping Mama’s environment peaceful.

As always, we will keep sharing loads of updates and pictures and videos so you can watch them grow. For now, the best way to support this little family is to cheer them on and give their caregivers the time and space to care for them. Thank you for understanding and helping us put their health first. ❤️🐾

Good morning from Mama and her little crew who were born 10/12. (Finalizing names today ❤️.)

Having a mama with her babies doesn’t mean we can assume everyone is getting enough to eat. Even a loving, attentive mama sometimes needs help making sure every little belly gets filled.

The bigger, stronger puppies can easily bump their smaller siblings out of the way. And depending on how Mama settles down, some nursing spots are harder to reach. That’s why we watch each baby closely and keep checking the scale.

Sadly, our tiniest little girl weighed just 198 grams when her foster mom weighed her on 10/13 and was 192 grams when she joined us the afternoon of 10/14.

Despite our supplemental feedings and our efforts to help her, she was too weak, and we lost her. Every tiny life matters, and losing her hurts. 💔

Our brown boy and the two white-and-brown girls are gaining well, but our two merle girls need more hands-on help.

Along with supplemental bottle feedings, we’re giving them frequent, supervised nursing time so they have a chance to eat without being pushed aside.

Sometimes that means helping a baby find a ni**le, patiently encouraging her to latch, and gently supporting her while she nurses. Then we do it all again. And again. It takes time, patience, and a whole lot of sitting beside Mama. Thankfully Mama is so sweet and patient and knows we are helping her and her babies. She is fine with us moving her, adjusting her and latching the babies on to her.

Supplemental bottle feeding to support the babies weight was recommended by the emergency veterinary team who ran bloodwork and found her calcium to be a little bit low and recommended an IV infusion. Bottle feeding the babies helps them gain and eases some of the demand on Mama. We’re continuing that extra support around the clock while watching these little ones like hawks.

These last couple of weeks trying to get babies caught up to a healthy weight has been brutal. First Mama Kiss’s Tuna Turner, Purrincess and Ozzy, then Darrin and Samantha and now the puppies.

Please send a little love to our merle girls. We are hoping their next weigh-ins show that all this teamwork is paying off. 🤞

And many have asked about a wish list…I haven’t had time to update our wish list for the puppy supplies yet because I want to quickly inventory so I see our highest needs. I will definitely make time to do that today.

As you can see, lap testing is already underway, and everyone wants the top spot!

One or more of these Bewitched cuties could be keeping YOUR lap warm soon, just in time for winter. And of course they will keep you entertained too!

They’ll be ready for their forever homes in just about 10 days!

Our $100 adoption fee per kitten includes:
🐱 Spay or neuter
🐱 Wellness exams
🐱 FVRCP vaccines and boosters through 16 weeks

🐱 FIV/FeLV testing
🐱 Microchip

If they go home before their vetting is complete, you simply schedule their remaining care at your convenience with the vet partner of your choice, and we take care of the bill!

Today was a BUSY one, and I think our Rock Star family missed me as much as I missed them! ❤️🎸🐾

Between driving to Durham for Winchester’s appointment and back home, then to Raleigh for Lily‘s appointment and back home, I spent about SIX hours behind the wheel. State Fair traffic made it a little more challenging today. 

Tomorrow, barring any emergencies, there will be NO driving, just catching up on cuddles with the fosters and waiting for the HVAC people to come and hopefully fix our home system so our AC and Heat work again.

Thankfully none of the fosters’ three areas are affected since they all have their own mini-splits in their areas. So while that gets sorted out, I’ll be taking requests from the band… and I’m pretty sure they’re all requesting more snuggles. 🎶
