🐾❤️ A Heartfelt Shout-Out to Black Hills Community Bank! ❤️🐾

From all of us at Guardian Shepherd Service Dogs, we want to extend our sincere gratitude to Black Hills Community Bank and employee Nathan for their incredible generosity and support.

We were honored to visit the bank yesterday to receive a Pass It On Donation, which will help complete the training of a service dog for a veteran in Rapid City. Contributions like this make a real difference and help us continue our mission of providing highly trained service dogs to veterans who need them most.

We are grateful to see South Dakota taking steps to protect legitimate service dog teams through its new law addressing the misrepresentation of pets as service animals.

Many people may not realize that service dogs are not simply well-behaved pets. They undergo extensive training to perform specific tasks that mitigate their handler's disability. These tasks can include guiding individuals with vision impairments, alerting to medical conditions, assisting with mobility, interrupting psychiatric episodes, and much more.

When someone falsely presents a pet as a service dog, it creates real risks. Untrained animals may become distracted, bark, lunge, or react unpredictably in public. These behaviors can interfere with a working service dog's ability to perform critical tasks and may place the handler's safety, health, and independence at risk.

It is also important to understand that fake service dogs contribute to public confusion about what a legitimate service dog is and can lead to increased skepticism toward individuals with disabilities who rely on these highly trained partners every day.

If your dog is not a trained service animal, please respect service dog access laws and leave your pet at home or visit businesses and events that welcome pets. By doing so, you help create safer, more accessible communities for those who depend on their service dogs.

Protect working dogs. Respect disabled handlers. Support accessibility for all.

Guardian Shepherd Service Dogs is looking for volunteers to help at the Harley-Davidson Food Truck Festival!

We will be running 2 beer tents and need 5 volunteers per tent. The shifts listed in the picture below still need to be filled!
