God is still calling young men to the priesthood. 🙏

Meet Deacon Josiah Hanson, a seminarian for the Diocese of Rapid City. Ordained to the transitional diaconate on May 30, he is preparing for priestly ordination in spring 2027.

The Saint Paul Seminary recently shared Josiah’s vocation story and testimony. We are grateful to share his story and to the donors and event attendees who have been part of his journey. Three of the four major events hosted by the Western South Dakota Catholic Foundation help support seminarian education for our diocese.

As our seminarians draw closer to the priesthood, please pray for them and for more young men to answer God’s call.

An anonymous donor has given $1 million to strengthen the future of our Diocese.

Of that gift, $500,000 has been designated for the Foundation’s General Endowment Fund, but a $500,000 match is required before it can be used.

Now, we have an opportunity to help unlock this extraordinary generosity.

Your gift can help us reach the $500,000 matching goal and strengthen Catholic ministry for generations to come.

💡 Did You Know?
The Western South Dakota Catholic Foundation distributes both restricted and unrestricted funds each year.

Restricted Funds are connected to established funds held at the Foundation. Organizations with these funds receive annual distributions.

If your organization has a restricted fund, we will be getting those award applications emailed out to you next week!

Unrestricted Funds are available through our grant application process and allow Catholic parishes, schools, ministries, and organizations to request support for projects that strengthen the Church and serve communities across western South Dakota.

No matter the source, every grant and award is made possible through faithful generosity and a desire to continue Christ’s mission.

📅 Applications Due: October 1
