We encourage Billerica residents and employees to utilize BATV's equipment and facilities to produce programming to promote government transparency and hyperlocal community coverage. Billerica Access Television, Inc.’s community volunteers, along with a governing body and professional staff are dedicated to preserving and advancing provisions that encourage and promote the expression of free flowi

ng ideas and speech. To that end, we believe more communication is better than less and encourage users to express themselves utilizing BATV’s resources and training programs thru the medium of television and the world wide web. Referred to as Billerica’s First Amendment Forum, electronic soapbox and clearing house of information, BATV was incorporated in 1987. The membership based non-profit, non-commercial Public, Educational and Government (PEG) access television corporation and educational / technical / media center is located at 430 Boston Road in Billerica. BATV’s membership is comprised of volunteers of all ages and includes Billerica residents, businesses and community organizations. Studios, field and post production equipment and training for BATV’s resources ranging from the basics of video production to advanced concepts that include technological interfaces of cable, TV, and web platforms are available to users. Fun and efficient classes for equipment use and production concepts are regularly offered to meet the needs and demanding schedules of pending and / or current members. BATV members and residents present and / or produce all programming cablecast on the access channels. Programming includes topics that are of interest and importance to the community and may be viewed on Comcast channels 8 (Public), 99 (Educational) and 22 (Government) and on Verizon channels 31 (Public), 24 (Educational) and 26 (Government) in Billerica or on the world wide web utilizing BATV’s Video on Demand service. We at BATV believe freedom of expression and speech are important rights and instead of restricting speech, we encourage open extensive communication while promoting diversity and responsibility. Exercise your freedom, your rights and your responsibilities.

Community media is all about giving local people a voice. From government meeting coverage and local stories to media education and community connection.

That’s why this article really resonated with us at Billerica Access Television. It’s a fun reminder of the creativity and community connection that public access makes possible. Oh, and how cool is that to see Stephen Colbert guest-host a community media TV show!?

At the same time, community media centers are facing very real funding challenges nationwide. Congress is currently considering HR 2289, legislation that could eliminate the franchise fees that help fund local public access stations like BATV. Combined with the continued decline in cable subscribers, the future of local, non-commercial community media is increasingly uncertain. Thankfully, organizations like MassAccess and the Alliance for Community Media are actively advocating to protect these vital community resources.
Check out the article and the special episode of "Only in Monroe" on Monroe Community Media.

A day after the comedian hosted the final episode of “The Late Show With Stephen Colbert” on CBS, he hosted “Only in Monroe,” a community-access program in Monroe, Mich.

🔥 FINAL EVENT UPDATE @4:50pm: 🔥

There will be a Pizza Party in the WEST CLUB ROOM - see you there!!

Edit: game is still on! We will be doing an update on dinner, but please come, use your tickets and we’ll see you at the game!!!

We have just received word that there has been a fire in the kitchen of the Tsongas arena. We are still waiting for an update on whether or not the game tonight will be canceled, but we do have confirmation that our catering order has been canceled.

In the event that the game goes on as scheduled, we will have pizzas and snacks available for our members/guests. We did want to give a heads up that the “fancy sitdown dinner” we had anticipated will now be shifted into a pizza party. In the event that the game is canceled, we will update on our socials and website as more information becomes available.
