When we began This Is What Happens When Women Read, we dreamed of moments like this one —
when a woman’s courage meets her opportunity,
when a story that began in quiet becomes one the whole world can hear.

Today, we walk through the gates of Oxford beside Smriti Sinha — our first inaugural scholar.
Born in Bihar, India, she carries within her the hope of every woman who was told her voice did not belong in rooms like these.

But here she is.
And in her steps, we see the proof of what’s possible —
