On July 5, 2020, MY TRUE independence day, I took a leap of faith and filed the paperwork to start Mears Engineers.
I was scared. I didnāt know exactly what I was doing. I didnāt know what the future would hold.
Six years later, that leap of faith has led to things I never could have imagined.
Today, through The Redmond Project, we are helping provide a playground valued at $40,000 for the City of Lone Grove. Our nonprofit is contributing $13,500 to help make it happen.
What started as one person with a dream has grown into an engineering firm with 12 incredible employees, and we will soon be growing to 15. On August 1, we will move into our first building at 122nd and Penn, with the purchase closing on September 1st.
For a long time, I told myself that spite was what drove me.
Looking back, I donāt think thatās true.
Maybe it helped me get started. But spite didnāt build this.
Purpose did.
The purpose of creating opportunities for other people. Opportunities for our employees, our clients, and the communities we are blessed to serve.
That is what has sustained me.
None of this happens alone.
To every client who trusted us, every employee who has poured themselves into this company, every person who has donated to The Redmond Project over the last two years, and everyone who has supported me along the way ā thank you.
This playground, this company, and this next chapter belong to all of us.
Iām grateful beyond words, and Iām excited to see what we can build together over the next six years.
