Program at the library tonight 9/3 at 6:30 pm - Unpaving Paradise: Re-inviting Nature to Your Garden!
A great deal of garden buzz these days about restoring our landscapes to their native habitat, but what does that mean and why should we consider it? This program explores the details and the science behind the trend, as well as ways to easily start welcoming older plant friends to your garden.
About the Presenter
Sarah Bailey is a Connecticut Certified Horticulturalist and a UConn Advanced Master Gardener who has worked in the horticultural industry for the last three decades. She serves on the Board of Directors of the CT Horticultural Society as well as the education committees of both the CT Horticultural Society and the CT Nursery and Landscape Association. Sarah is also an instructor for the Connecticut Certified Horticulturalist program and the UConn Extension Master Gardener program.

Eight members of the Kensington Garden Club recently took a field trip to Enders Island in Mystic to see all the beautiful gardens. Enders Island is a retreat center open to the public and has been recognized as having one of the largest collection of Dahlia’s in all of New England. So many different varieties of flowers and gardens. A wonderful day!

Kensington Garden Club is pleased to announce that Maggie Yantz is the recipient of its annual scholarship. She will be attending the University of New Hampshire to pursue an undergraduate degree in Marine, Estuarine, and Freshwater Biology with a double major in Zoology. She
desires to work in the field of marine conservation. Maggie is a graduate of Berlin High School where she was an outstanding scholar and active in concert band, jazz band, brass quintet, and marching band of which she was drum major hervsenior year. She was a founding member of Literacy for Life and was also involved with
Upbeat. In 2025 she attended a UConn Summer Experience in Marine Conservation. In addition, her resume includes work experience at local businesses.
Congratulations, Maggie! The members of the Garden Club wish you the best as you continue your education to pursue a degree in marine biology and zoology.

The Kensington Garden Club has donated and cared for beautiful planters at the Berlin/Kensington fire stations. New signage was recently added.

The Kensington Garden Club Youth Gardening recently organized a hike with the Berlin Girl Scouts to Kensington Orchards. Heidi Briely, with the Berlin Land Trust, led the hike pointing out native and invasive plants. The girls had a wonderful time and we appreciate Heidi sharing her extensive knowledge.
