I’m not sure where to begin, today was hell.
Today, I was supposed to pick up Merlin’s brother, Mauer. His healthy, crazy brother.
A few days ago, he left his old life behind him and started his journey to us. Very early this morning, Mauer passed away. Before, he finished his journey. Before, I got to give him a big hug. Before, he was reunited with his brother Merlin.
Today, I picked up Mauer.
He was no longer healthy, he was no longer earth side. But he was still my dog. I still loved him and cried for him. My heart is broken he never had the life I was planning for him. My heart is broken that when Merlin leaves soon, his brother won’t be here keeping his bed warm and his memory alive.
I left this morning to pick up Mauer, knowing he was gone. We will honor his body and lay his soul to rest. We will cherish him like no one else ever has. I am so sorry we couldn’t save you. I am sorry the world was cruel to you.
