A closer look at eye care! 👁

Students in the high school after school program had the opportunity to meet Dr. Alice Townshend from . They learned the difference between an ophthalmologist and an optometrist, examined an eye model, and discovered how different eye diseases can affect vision.

Through hands-on stations, students tried visual acuity and color vision tests, explored peripheral vision, practiced patient interviews, learned about pupil dilation, and matched eye care equipment to its purpose. They even explored optical illusions!

A big thank you to Dr. Townshend for giving students an up-close look at the science of vision and the many career opportunities in eye care! 👓

What careers are behind the world of finance? 💼

South Beloit College & Career Center students explored careers in insurance, employee benefits, and financial planning with Seth from TRICOR Insurance and Kailyn from Northwestern Mutual. 💰

Students discovered how finance careers go beyond numbers, offering opportunities for independence, strong earning potential, and making an impact! 🚀

🚧 Concrete careers are built right here in our community! 🏗

Students from Beloit Memorial High School and Hallstrom Homeschool Workshops had the opportunity to visit Mid-States Concrete Industries and explore the world of precast concrete manufacturing!

From discovering how their work connects to familiar places and projects throughout our community to learning about company values and what matters when starting a career, students gained a whole new perspective on the opportunities available right here at home. Jaron did a fantastic job sharing insights about the company and what it takes to build a successful career. Students also enjoyed touring the facility and seeing the action happening firsthand!

💰 What happens when your financial choices follow you for years?

This week, South Beloit College & Career Center students explored the real-world impact of financial decisions, loans, and credit scores! Through a simulated 10-year financial journey, students made choices about budgeting, housing, careers, emergency expenses, and investing - all with the goal of ending up financially stable, healthy, and happy! 📈

They also explored different types of loans, the risks that come with borrowing, and why your credit score matters. And, of course, we had to put their knowledge to the test with Credit Score Jenga! Students saw firsthand how financial choices can help, or hurt, their credit. 💳

Learning about money today = making smarter choices tomorrow! Thank you , for your expertise! 🙌

🎉 Hospitality is Underway! 🎉

Middle school students kicked off our fall pop-up by exploring the five sectors of hospitality and taking a closer look at Events & Event Entertainment! ✨

Students talked about what makes an event memorable and discovered how entertainment can be a BIG part of creating an experience guests won't forget. They also got to learn from entrepreneur Dayton Bennett, who shared about his business Dabadooya and Company, his journey, and how he brings the energy and entertainment that helps kick off the party! 🎈

Thank you, Dayton, for taking time to share your craft and expertise! Also, thank you to our friends at Visit Beloit for sharing not only their event space with us but giving a little insight into hospitality! 💙

💰 Building Financial Skills for the Future!

Students at South Beloit High School are partnering with our friends at over the next several weeks to explore financial literacy and learn how the choices they make today can impact their financial future. 💸

During session 1, students learned about different types of financial institutions, the basics of creating a budget, and what to do when life throws a curveball and that budget needs to change. 🏦

Real-world skills. Smart decisions. A stronger financial future. 💡

Students from Turner High School and Clinton Junior/Senior High School teamed up to explore exciting careers in the food & beverage industry!

Aeneas from shared his personal journey, experiences, and insight into what it takes to create a successful supper club experience. Students even put their presentation skills to the test with a fun bread basket challenge! 🥖
