Beloit Area Youth Wrestling (BAY) and Team Nitro Building Tomorrow's Champions / Providing a safe & fun environment for the youth of the Beloit Area to explore the sport of Wrestling

Open to all youth Grades K-8 in the greater Beloit Wisconsin Area. Mission: “The Beloit Area Youth Wrestling Club is primarily a developmental club. Our goal is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for the youth of the Beloit Area to explore the sport of Wrestling.”

The Beloit Area Youth Wrestling Club was founded in 2007 by Doug Clark, Chris Scharmer, and Glen Swedlund, in cooperation wit

h the head wrestling coaches of Beloit Memorial and Beloit Turner High Schools, Jason Gladowski and Matt Ries, respectively, to provide the youth of Beloit a true community wrestling club. We have been able to continue to cultivate that realtionship with each school over the previous 15 seasons The club is open to all youth in the Beloit area regardless of which school he or she attends. Our goal is to keep the price minimal, so every child and every family can afford to participate. Practices have alternated between Beloit Memorial’s and Beloit Turner’s wrestling rooms. Our reasoning was, in order to have a community club, the parents and youngsters would have to learn to be comfortable not only with each other, but also with each other’s schools. In its brief existence, the club has grown dramatically. The club had started with approximately 24 members meeting two nights a week in its first year. We have been averaging between 50 to 70 young wrestlers per year and with the introduction of TEAM NITRO (the competitive branch of BAY Wrestling) and sessions being held three nights a week and Saturday mornings. This past two seasons surpassed all expectations. The club grew to 120 and 92 members respectively, participating at three different levels, with practice sessions being held four nights a week and some Saturday mornings when facilities were available. Each level met two nights a week, with the competitive team now known as ‘TEAM NITRO,’ meeting a third session when possible and competing at local tournaments on Sundays. In addition to Team Nitro, the club sponsors an introductory level called SPARKS for youth ages Kindergarten (5-years-old) through 2nd Grade. ‘BAY’ Wrestling, is our developmental program for wrestlers in grades 3 through 8 with minimal or no experience in wrestling, or wrestlers that just don’t feel comfortable with making the step to the competitive level. We pride ourselves in being able to be flexible and responsive to each wrestler’s needs and desires. The success of our program can be attributed to the volunteer coaches we have been able to recruit. Their dedication, and that of all the other quality coaches in the program, has made this a positive, fun, and enriching experience for our youth.

Good evening all,
A couple of quick updates
- THANK YOU to all who have signed up so far with the TeamSnap app. Definitely going to be another busy and full year and we are looking forward to see you all again in about a month. I'll be testing the club distribution lists at TeamSnap this weekend so watch your app and email for those.
- If you have questions about the club and would like someone to call, the best way to get ahold of one us is our email address or DM on Facebook and soon the new TeamSnap app. I know there are some older flyers from years past with different phone numbers on them, but as often happens with volunteer clubs, people have moved on when their kids got older and new people have picked up the mantle to continue the traditions. [email protected] will be a stable way to get ahold of someone for years to come.
- Lastly, Facebook had moved our club page into a business page several years ago which poses some challenges for various aspects of posting and sharing. They are running a business and looking for ad revenue but unfortunately we do not have money to spend on paying to get pushed into everyone feed. So if you know someone who may be interested in getting into the club this year, please like and share or tag them so they can see the updates.

Welcome to everyone,

As of today we are only 5 short weeks away from the start of the 2022-2023 Beloit Area Youth Wrestling season!

The coaches and board members have been working on a few things this summer to help improve the club this year and in future years and I would like to share a few of those things with you. But before that, I want to reaffirm a few things that will not be changing. We are primarily a developmental club with the mission statement of getting Beloit area youth into the sport of wrestling. Wrestling is a hands-on combat sport that challenges people both physically and mentally to work smarter and harder. We fully understand that not every person who signs up will want to do tournaments, and we do not require anyone to compete. We simply ask that wrestlers come willing to learn, work hard and improve everyday. With that being said, I'm excited to share some of the new changes this year with you.

First, we are rebranding our logos and team name to the BELOIT SPARTANS WRESTLING CLUB. This will give us a better identity and mascot we can rally behind at tournaments as a team. We are excited to be working with Wright World Sports to get new shirts printed and this apparel will be available for order from them for the season.

Next, the organization of the club is changing slightly this year to better align with our coaching needs and team formats. The previous levels of k-2 Sparks will be moving to a k-3 level called Agoge ( which means young Spartans in training). The Agoge level will meet twice a week on Tuesdays and Thursdays alternating between Beloit Turner and Beloit Memorial HS.

The previous 3rd-8th grade BAY level and TEAM NITRO competitive team will move to a 4th -8th grade joined team called the Spartans. By joining these two teams, we can share the wins of the competition team with the rest of their peers, and let some of the more experienced wrestlers develop their team leadership skills during practice. The Spartans will also be practicing on Tuesdays and Thursdays alternating between Turner and BMHS. We will stagger the start and end times for the two teams to allow for parents who have wrestlers in both to do dropoff and pick up. As the wrestlers progress in skill and drive and join the competitive team, we will offer additional practices if the wrestlers and parents choose.

Lastly, we are working with a company called TeamSnap that will provide software for team management. This will allow us to have online registration and payments as well as team chats, team schedules and better communication tools for when practices need to change due to weather or other school closure issues. TeamSnap has an app that can be downloaded for either Apple or Android phones that can provide up to date information about the practices and tournament schedules. We're excited about the improved tools this will provide the coaches and parents this year. To ensure the transition to online goes as smooth as possible we are starting registration earlier than we have in past years. The online registration portal will be open on October 17th.

In order to ensure we have adequate coaching staff and enough space for everyone, we will be limiting the size for each group to 35-40 wrestlers.

In closing, I want to thank you all for your continued support of the club and the sport of wrestling here in Beloit. If any of you have the ability and desire (and time!) to coach or volunteer at any of our fundraisers we would welcome the help. As always if you have any questions please reach out to us and let us know.

A couple of important dates that are coming up.

We wouldn't be as successful as we are without great community support.
