Open to all youth Grades K-8 in the greater Beloit Wisconsin Area. Mission: “The Beloit Area Youth Wrestling Club is primarily a developmental club. Our goal is to provide a safe and enjoyable environment for the youth of the Beloit Area to explore the sport of Wrestling.”
The Beloit Area Youth Wrestling Club was founded in 2007 by Doug Clark, Chris Scharmer, and Glen Swedlund, in cooperation wit
h the head wrestling coaches of Beloit Memorial and Beloit Turner High Schools, Jason Gladowski and Matt Ries, respectively, to provide the youth of Beloit a true community wrestling club. We have been able to continue to cultivate that realtionship with each school over the previous 15 seasons The club is open to all youth in the Beloit area regardless of which school he or she attends. Our goal is to keep the price minimal, so every child and every family can afford to participate. Practices have alternated between Beloit Memorial’s and Beloit Turner’s wrestling rooms. Our reasoning was, in order to have a community club, the parents and youngsters would have to learn to be comfortable not only with each other, but also with each other’s schools. In its brief existence, the club has grown dramatically. The club had started with approximately 24 members meeting two nights a week in its first year. We have been averaging between 50 to 70 young wrestlers per year and with the introduction of TEAM NITRO (the competitive branch of BAY Wrestling) and sessions being held three nights a week and Saturday mornings. This past two seasons surpassed all expectations. The club grew to 120 and 92 members respectively, participating at three different levels, with practice sessions being held four nights a week and some Saturday mornings when facilities were available. Each level met two nights a week, with the competitive team now known as ‘TEAM NITRO,’ meeting a third session when possible and competing at local tournaments on Sundays. In addition to Team Nitro, the club sponsors an introductory level called SPARKS for youth ages Kindergarten (5-years-old) through 2nd Grade. ‘BAY’ Wrestling, is our developmental program for wrestlers in grades 3 through 8 with minimal or no experience in wrestling, or wrestlers that just don’t feel comfortable with making the step to the competitive level. We pride ourselves in being able to be flexible and responsive to each wrestler’s needs and desires. The success of our program can be attributed to the volunteer coaches we have been able to recruit. Their dedication, and that of all the other quality coaches in the program, has made this a positive, fun, and enriching experience for our youth.
