Sometimes, the most powerful tool you have is your voice.

If a friend is about to drive impaired, get in the car with someone who shouldn’t be driving, or make a decision that could put them in danger…say something.

It might feel awkward. They might get annoyed. You might worry about “ruining the fun.” But I promise, an uncomfortable conversation is worth it if it means everyone makes it home safely!!

You never know when using your voice could save a life. 🤍

Impairment isn’t always obvious!

Someone doesn’t have to be stumbling or slurring their words to be unsafe to drive. Alcohol, ma*****na, prescription medications, and other drugs can all slow reaction time, impair judgment, and affect coordination…even if someone “seems fine.”

If something feels off, trust your instincts. Offering a ride or speaking up may feel uncomfortable in the moment, but it could save a life!

This was Claire at 7 years old…face to the ground, hands in the mud, laughing. She found the puddle and dove right in, the same way she went at everything in her life, until her life was cut short by an impaired driver. 🪽

Friday kicks off the deadliest stretch of the week on the road. On weekends, about 28% of crash deaths involve a drunk driver, nearly double any weekday, and 69% of drunk-driving deaths happen after dark.

So before you head out tonight, have your way home already settled: a designated driver, a rideshare, a cab, or a couch to crash on. A “little” impaired is still impaired!

Salt air, warm sand, one more sunset…the things Claire loved.

Claire Zeller was just 24 years old when her life was taken by impaired driving. This was her happy place: the beach, the water, the last light of a summer day. She should have had a lifetime of these sunsets ahead of her.

That’s why Claire’s Promise exists…to educate, to advocate, and to make sure no other family loses someone to a choice that never had to be made. Because impaired driving is 100% preventable, every single time.

So this summer, in Claire’s memory:
💛 Plan your sober ride home before the fun starts.
💛 If you’ve been drinking or using, hand over the keys.
💛 If someone you love is about to drive impaired, speak up.

Let’s make sure everyone gets home to enjoy the next sunset.
