We want to say THANK YOU once again to PetWorx.org for their huge donation of dog and cat food. This is a blessing to us and our foster puppies. It’s also a blessing to be able to share the cat food with the ones in our county that rescue cats.

🚨🐾 MISSISSIPPI TAKES A STRONGER STAND AGAINST ANIMAL ABUSE! 🐾🚨

Mississippi's animal cruelty law was strengthened through Senate Bill 2658, signed by Governor Tate Reeves

Good news for animals across our state! Mississippi has strengthened its animal cruelty laws, giving law enforcement and prosecutors stronger tools to hold animal abusers accountable.

✅ Aggravated cruelty to dogs and cats is now a FELONY on the FIRST offense. No longer does the law require a previous conviction before serious charges can be filed.

✅ Offenders convicted of aggravated cruelty can face up to 3 years in prison and fines of up to $5,000.

✅ Each animal that is abused can be charged as a separate offense, meaning individuals who harm multiple animals can face multiple felony charges.

This change represents a major step forward for animal welfare in Mississippi and sends a clear message: cruelty to animals will not be tolerated.

As animal welfare professionals, we see firsthand the results of neglect, abandonment, and abuse. Every animal deserves compassion, proper care, and protection under the law. We applaud the efforts of those who worked tirelessly to strengthen these protections and help make Mississippi a safer place for animals.

PCHS is currently closed for new intakes due to capacity constraints. We regret the inconvenience this may cause for the community, but unfortunately, we lack available foster care resources. Until we can manage our current animal population, intake services will remain suspended.
