To promote career and educational opportunities, our Inner Harbor campus in Georgia recently hosted a career expo, connecting the youth in our care with potential employers and colleges as they prepare for their futures. The diverse slate of exhibitors ranged from entertainment venues and tourist attractions to technical colleges and skilled trades, along with a professional actor, nurse practitioner and the Douglas County Fire Department. The expo was designed to prepare and motivate youth for the workforce by giving them exposure, skills and connections they might not otherwise have had.

Ashley is rewriting her story one courageous step at a time. From losing her father and sister at a young age to navigating instability, foster care and moments when she felt completely alone, she kept moving forward.

At 19, she’s living on her own, working, attending college and building the future she never thought possible. With LifeSet’s support and her own determination, Ashley learned to advocate for herself, set boundaries, make independent decisions and believe in her strength again.

Today, she’s thriving — hopeful, grounded and shaping a life defined not by what she’s been through, but by who she’s becoming.

At 19, Ashley is moving forward with confidence as she shapes her future on her terms. She lives independently, is in her first semester at Fayetteville Technical Community College and works part time while preparing for a career in respiratory therapy and nursing.

“Our foster parents are our unsung heroes,” said Delvit Rogers, Youth Villages foster care training and placement manager. “They really step in and allow the youth to come into their home. They love them like their own. And so, we just want to have a time to celebrate them and acknowledge all the efforts that they put forward over the past year.

Ali, a regional manager in Kentucky, is bravely sharing her truth about growing up in foster care. She entered the system at 14 and remained in state custody until 21. At 18, everything changed when she joined LifeSet and gained skills in employment, transportation, post‑secondary education, financial literacy and, most importantly, self‑advocacy.

But the reality is that not every young person in foster care receives this level of support. That’s why Ali is using her voice to push for stronger, more intentional systems in Kentucky and across the country.

We’re grateful to be part of your journey, Ali. Read her full story here.

We’re grateful to see the work of Youth Villages featured in the Philanthropic Trust highlighting the importance of supporting children, young people and families through life’s most difficult moments.

We know meaningful change happens through strong relationships, evidence-based care and communities that show up for young people when they need it most. We’re thankful for the trust families place in us and for the many supporters who help make this mission possible every day.

Behind every success story is a child who was given hope, support and someone who believed in them.
