They run on Mondays, Sept 14, 21, & 28; Oct 19& 26 @ 6:30pm at the Barrington Public Library, 426 Calef Hwy, Barrington.

Charlie Tatham and John Benes appreciate their handiwork of the new post and sign for the new Peach Orchard Trail. Cut in 2025 and opened this spring, the trail is a 1.3 mile loop trail in the Open Space C behind the Signature Drive community.

You can park at the Town Hall and walk up September Drive (mistakenly called High Point Circle in Google Maps) to the trailhead beyond 45 September Drive. Geo location: 43.2303301, -70.9873572 can be copied and pasted into Google Maps to find the trailhead.

THE WHOLE THING...

Eleven hikers joined the Barrington Trails Committee to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the Barrington Trail with a three mile hike on Saturday, 15 August. One of Barrington's first planned trails and brain-child of Jim Schulz, the godfather of Barrington Conservation, it stretches three miles from Seavey Bridge to the BYA ballfields. It includes conserved lands from several families, Town lands, the Isinglass River and a pond and Scruton Pond & Brewster Roads.

We got a short history of the mills along the river, a poem from a Winkley ancestor, stories of dam breaks, floods and long-gone covered bridges and heron nests.

The inaugural Fat Marmot Week commences August 24 for those that vote for fat mammals, but don't like ones that can eat them. (Katmai Fat Bear contest comes in September). When not making high-end outdoor gear, that fatten up for their winter hibernation.

Newest BCC commissioner Liz Burrill joins Smokey the Bear (US Forest Service guest of the Barrington Fire & Rescue Dept) at the Barrington Night Out on the Barrington Common on Tuesday evening.

SELT celebrated the acquisition and conservation of 483 acres and 1 mile of shoreline on Ayers Lake (Pond?) at Camp Fireside on July 26th. The wishes of the Donigian and Bedford families were served through their efforts with help of LCHIP (NH’s Land and Community Heritage Investment Program), SELT (Southeast Land Trust) and the BCC (Barrington Conservation Commission). The site has no marked trails (to better protect the high value lands) and can be seen along Washington Street (Rt 202) just south of Donigians Way.

The beaver dam just south of Tibbetts Road on SATWaSR has failed and the pond has drained. The top picture looks west and the bottom picture looks east from a spot formerly underwater. No sign of the rodent repair team yet.

A small but hearty band took off onto the Red, White and Blue Trails at the Kids of the River (KOTR) site on Scruton Pond Road on Saturday's Weekend Walkabout. We exercised our rights of life, liberty and the pursuit of hiking on this special property created by past Barrington Middle School students as they learned how governments worked.
