It's National Read a Book Day. It's a cool, rainy day in Central Mass - the perfect opportunity to curl up with a good book and whet your appetite for our October production. Do you have a favorite mystery novel? Or a favorite Agatha Christie?

Reserve your tickets for Agatha Christie's A Murder is Announced to see one of the author's favorites and what inspired her to say, "I thought all the characters interesting to write about and felt I knew them quite well by the time the book was finished." We hope you will think that too.

Join us Saturday September 5th from 2PM to 8PM for our free "Boards and Boards" community event!

What is "Boards and Boards"? It's a social gathering where people come together to enjoy food boards and board games. Bring a food board to share (it can be savory or sweet or both!) and play from a selection of board games we will have available. We'll list some of the offerings we'll have before the event. You can also bring your own games to share.

Water and soft drinks will be available. All attendees will be entered for a chance to win a door prize of two tickets to the last two shows of our season - Agatha Christie's A Murder is Announced and the family musical Annie.

This is a great chance to meet some of our membership and ask questions about how to get involved with Barre Players. Membership forms will be available if you would like to support us as a member.

If you have any questions or would like to RSVP, please email Anthony at [email protected]. You can also visit barreplayers.ludus.com to RSVP. This is not required, but it is appreciated. All are welcome and feel free to come and go as you please!

If you bring a food board, we encourage you to visit the Farmer's Market in town or shop at any of our local bakeries or eateries. Please clearly list any allergens for anything you may bring and try to avoid peanut/tree nut products.

It's been a busy week at Barre Players. We closed a successful run of our summer youth production of Hadestown: Teen Edition by Anaïs Mitchell, started rehearsals for Agatha Christie's A Murder is Announced, and are getting ready for Auditions for Annie next week.

All of that is possible because of what began this week 105 years ago in Barre, when a Broadway producer gathered his friends from New York as well as friends and family from town to present A Midsummer Night's Dream on the common. 1000 tickets were sold for the one night performance.

In the decades since, Barre Players became an organization that has put on musicals, comedies, dramas, and Shakespeare in various locations around Barre Common. In 1993, we moved into the former Methodist Church at 64 Common Street and made that our home.

We are grateful for what Mr. Vivian started with his community in 1921 and even more grateful for the community that continues to be part of our shows on the stage and behind the scenes and in the audience. We hope you will come audition next week or attend our next performance.

Maybe that will inspire you to be a member and join us as we follow the tradition of that troupe of actors and friends to make theater happen in Barre. We invite you to join us. (https://barreplayers.ludus.com/passes.php)

As of this posting, we have 25 tickets left for this afternoon. You can get your tickets in advance at barreplayers.ludus.com. Tickets can be purchased at the door, but we strongly encourage you to order ahead to guarantee you a seat.
