Thank you WYPR for the great write up of the Metro Baltimore Council AFL - CIO Unions Labor Day Bus Tour last week and our stop at Baltimore City Community College, where faculty organized under United Academics of Maryland Community Colleges & AFT Maryland have just won their first contract.

Unions rally at BCCC for staff contract, financial transparency in honor of Labor Day. Courtney Jenkins led the crowd chanting, “Tell me what democracy looks like. This is what democracy looks like,” along with other labor chants.

We were so proud to receive this "Agile Avenger Award" earlier this week for work with our partners on Safe Staffing legislation in Maryland. Pictured here is AFT Maryland organizer Janell Thornton accepting the certificate from Loraine Arikat. It reads, "For adapting on the spot, tackling fallacies, and amplifying the powerful stories of healthcare workers." Thank you 1199 SEIU Maryland/DC for all of your work on this!
