Show Your Soft Side

Show Your Soft Side Founded in Baltimore, a campaign created to combat animal abuse & support the most vulnerable. Today, Show Your Soft Side, Inc.

Show Your Soft Side is a public service campaign that was created to change the mindset of young people who all-too-often view the maiming and torturing of defenseless cats and dogs as a sign of “toughness” or “manhood.” The campaign’s message that compassion towards animals is a strength, not a weakness, is one that struck a chord with young and old alike. uses its reach and resources to build a better world for animals and, in doing so, build better adults.

What we love most about this story is how they have planned for the inevitable, and all family members are involved.

At 90 years old, Donna James knew exactly what she wanted. She told her daughter she hoped to find a small dog who could be her companion — one who would be happiest curled up on her lap while she sat in her wheelchair.

Her daughter began searching, and eventually reached out to Pawportunities, a foster-based rescue in Blue Springs, Missouri.

That's when the family learned about Mocha. Mocha is a little Chihuahua who had suddenly lost her eyesight. She hadn't always been blind, but after losing her vision, she became especially attached to people and wanted nothing more than to stay close.

The senior pup was, in every sense, a lap dog.

When the rescue heard what Donna was looking for, they immediately thought of Mocha. So they arranged a meeting.

As soon as Donna settled Mocha onto her lap, the little Chihuahua seemed to know she was exactly where she belonged. Donna gently stroked her head and cuddled her close, while Mocha relaxed in her arms..

Before long, she was beginning to doze off.

“Isn't that so sweet? I'm so thankful,” Donna's daughter told Pawportunities staff. “This is exactly what they wanted.”

But the rescue wanted to make sure Mocha would always be cared for, so they talked with Donna's family about what would happen if she ever could no longer care for her.

The answer was reassuring. Donna and her husband live with their daughter and grandson in a multigenerational household, and the entire family was committed to making Mocha part of their lives.

They even came up with a plan to make sure Mocha would form bonds with everyone in the family which included going on daily coffee runs with Donna's daughter and spending one-on-one time with the other family members. That way, she would always have people she knew and trusted. For Mocha, it meant finding a home where she could be close to someone who wanted exactly the kind of companionship she loved to give.

And for Donna, it meant finally having the little lap dog she had been dreaming of.

“The Biscuit Syndicate”: Coming to a porch near you 🐾🐶😆

🚚🐾 The Dawgzilla Chronicles: West Virginia Edition 🐾🚚

There are dogs on my route… and then there’s Ruby “Redbone” DeMarco. 😂

Ruby doesn’t live in the neighborhood. Ruby RUNS the neighborhood.

Word is she’s the four paw boss behind the entire West Virginia biscuit operation. Nothing moves through her territory without Ruby knowing about it, especially a big brown truck loaded with treats.

Her crew is still running strong.

Knuckles Malone is the muscle.
Babyface Benny handles collections.
Salty Snout Sampson is the old school consigliere.
And Two Treat Tony somehow collects twice and nobody has the courage to question the books. 😂

Then there’s Ruby.

She doesn’t chase the UPS truck. She doesn’t bark. She doesn’t beg.

She simply walks up, puts one paw on the step, flashes that little gangster grin and waits.

Because around here, everybody knows the rules.

Thirty percent biscuit tax. No exceptions. 😂

One biscuit gets your package delivered.

Two biscuits guarantee safe passage out of the neighborhood.

And if Dawgzilla tries driving away without paying?

Well… nobody really knows.

Nobody’s ever been dumb enough to try. 😂🐾🚚

Ruby “Redbone” DeMarco.

Boss of the block.
Queen of the biscuits.
And undisputed Don of this corner of West Virginia.

Dawgzilla knows one thing: Always pay the biscuit tax. 😂

Danny Stenhouse was out for a walk when he came across a weathered wooden bench dedicated to what he called a “good dog.”

The bench had clearly fallen into disrepair, covered in green algae and dirt, but the small memorial plaque remained. It read: “Berri Romans. The best dog in the world.”

Seeing the tribute to someone’s beloved companion, Danny decided it deserved a little care.

Danny specializes in restoring hardwood floors, so he had the tools and skills to bring the bench back to life. He scraped away the algae and mildew, sanded the wood, polished the metal plaque and finished the bench with a waterproof stain to help protect it from the elements.

When he was finished, the once-weathered bench had been beautifully restored—and Berri’s memorial could once again be appreciated as the loving tribute it was meant to be.

Danny shared a video of his work on Instagram, writing, “I found a bench dedicated to a good dog. So I paid my respects.”

People were touched by his simple gesture. One viewer wrote, “What a beautiful thing to do.” Another said, “How lovely that good dog is not forgotten.”

Danny didn't know Berri or the person who placed the bench there. He simply saw a memorial that mattered to someone—and decided to make sure it continued to honor a good dog. ❤️🐾
