MLK ON THE MOVE 🚍

Today, we had the opportunity to take our first field trip! We visited the APEX Museum in Atlanta, Georgia where we learned about the historical relevance of Auburn Avenue and the important work they are doing to preserve this history. Of course, no trip to Atlanta would be complete without a stop at the King Center. ❤️

We are incredibly grateful for this day and know that this is just the beginning of many more educational and community based events! Thank you to our members, bus drivers, community partners, parents, guardians, and youth for making this day a success!

The City of Bainbridge is proud to sponsor and host the Juneteenth Community Cookout on Friday, June 19, from 4:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Carson Hatcher Park at the Earle May Boat Basin.

As part of the City's planning efforts for this year's Juneteenth celebration, I invited representatives from local community organizations to participate in a collaborative planning process. During that meeting, Marquita J. District A, Bainbridge City Council suggested the community barbecue concept, and the group built upon that idea to create a family-friendly Juneteenth celebration.

I extend my sincere appreciation to the community organizations, volunteers, Councilman Kregg Close, Councilwoman Marquita Harris, and City of Bainbridge employees who dedicated their time, shared their ideas, and worked together to help make this event possible. I am proud of the collaborative effort that has gone into planning this year's Juneteenth Community Cookout.

☀️ Summer is here, but the work doesn’t stop!

The Decatur County MLK Committee is proud to share that our members have successfully completed the Get Involved Training Program thanks to Dr. Crycynthia Gardner

This training equips our organization to effectively support, mentor, and pour into the youth within our local school system. Our mission is to remain engaged and hands-on with our young people. ❤️💛💚🖤

Each participating member has successfully completed a thorough background check and comprehensive training process.

To the parents in our community: thank you in advance for trusting us with the privilege of mentoring your children. We truly believe that together, we can make a difference—because it takes a village. ✨

The Decatur County MLK Committee is organizing a collection drive to support the first responders working tirelessly on the frontlines of the South GA wildfires. We want to show up for them the way they’ve shown up for their communities. Thank you to the Mayor of Attapulgus for your guidance & partnership to help make this happen!

We are currently collecting essential items such as:
• Bottled water
• Electrolyte drinks
• Non-perishable snacks
• Cooling towels
• Hygiene items
• Lip balm, sunscreen, and bug spray

Every donation—big or small—makes a difference.
