In 1988, PRSEA (Poudre Retired School Employees Association) awarded two local high school seniors scholarships of $500 each to attend Front Range Community College (FRCC). Thus began a 38 year tradition of supporting hard working, talented young people who'd overcome obstacles to complete their high school education. In the past 38 years, both the amount awarded and number of recipients have increased: 115 students have received scholarships totaling over $200,000.
This spring we awarded eight local high school seniors $4,000 each to support their first year at FRCC. These outstanding young people have demonstrated strong work ethic, perseverance, and academic achievements including earning college credits, all in the face of personal challenges. Some will be the first in their families to attend college, and several have held part time jobs. The career interests of the 2026 recipients are diverse, and include dental hygiene, social work, digital animation, forensic science, nursing, welding, and business. All are so appreciative of the scholarships and opportunity to continue their education. As one recipient wrote, “Thank you so very much for your generous support and for believing in me. I will never forget about this amazing opportunity you gave me, and I hope to one day be able to give this same opportunity to someone, as you did for me.” Members of the committee were able to celebrate with each recipient at their school with gift bags and in-person congratulations.
Thanks to the scholarship committee, composed of Pam Kilness, Laurie Cullor, Bill Smith and Anna Chapell. Their continued dedication in selecting and celebrating recipients is greatly appreciated. If you have any questions about the PRSEA scholarship or the committee, please contact Pam Kilness ([email protected]) or Laurie Cullor ([email protected]), committee chairs.
