Last Saturday, we had the privilege of attending a celebration of life service for our friend, Skylar Gwin.

We heard so many beautiful stories about Skylar—the son, brother, grandson, nephew, cousin, and friend who lived life to the fullest. His family was determined that Skylar would never be defined or limited by his physical challenges, and he certainly was not.

Skylar completed 195 races and triathlons, played a variety of sports, enjoyed trips to the beach, and was an avid collector of sports jerseys. He didn’t live his life on the sidelines. He showed us what it looks like to keep going when life is challenging and while continuing to let your light shine along the way.

Two things we will remember the most about Skylar are his incredible smile and the joy he brought into every space he entered.

We are deeply grateful for the legacy he leaves of advocacy for safe, clean water for vulnerable families in Kenya. Skylar reminds us that everyone can make a difference.

Will you join Skylar’s family and friends at Little Mulberry Park on September 26th for the 18th annual Skylar’s Run – 5K for Clean Water as we celebrate the life of an amazing man whose shining light, spirit of joy and legacy of advocacy will never be forgotten?

We honor Skylar's memory as we: Go their distance. Change their story. 💙

Skylar’s life was marked by joy, perseverance, advocacy, and a deep desire to make a difference. His passion for life and his remarkable smile, despite many challenges, has forever changed our lives.

In 2023, Rejoice Project was honored to partner with Skylar and his dad, Paul, as the ongoing recipient of their annual Skylar’s Run 5K, advocating for families to have access to safe, clean water through receiving water filters.

From that first race, Skylar became a passionate advocate for providing clean water to vulnerable families in Kenya and shared it with his community and the world. Through his example, he showed us that EVERYONE can make a difference.

Many Kenyan families’ lives have been forever changed because of Skylar. To date, more than 550 families have received sustainable water filters through the support of Skylar and others who joined him in the fight for clean water.

While we deeply miss our friend and his beautiful, joyful presence, we are grateful for the hope we have in knowing that Skylar is fully healed and running through heaven in the presence of his Savior. May his legacy of joy, advocacy, and compassion continue to inspire others to make a difference.

For millions of women and children around the world, walking a 5K for water isn’t a race. It’s a daily reality as they have no close access to water.

Every day, they travel these miles to collect water for their families—often facing the risk of violence, dangerous terrain, and encounters with predators along the way.

At Skylar’s Run – 5K for Clean Water, we GO their distance. With every step, we remember the women and children who walk this distance not by choice, but because they have no other option. And together, we can help CHANGE their story.

What if the water on the right was the drinking water your family & children had to drink?

This week Elias visited a family who recently received a water filter and they no longer drink the contaminated water on the right but now have safe water changing the water they drink and changing their story.

This season we want to provide 250 more families and another entire school with safe clean water.

Will you join us?

Susan’s story changed because you provided a filter!

For the past six months, Susan has been using a clean water filter to provide safe drinking water for her family. Since then, she hasn’t had to visit a health clinic because of waterborne illnesses or buy medicine to treat stomach issues for any of her children. Clean, safe water has brought health, peace of mind, and hope into her home.

Susan is also excited to share the sustainability project she has started as a result of the time and money her family has saved from receiving a water filter!

Susan’s prayer is for every family in her community that has not yet received a water filter. She longs for them to experience the same joy, improved health, and freedom that her family now enjoys.

When you partner with our water program through the 5K this fall you help another 250 families receive water filters in 2027 and change their stories like Susan!

Will you help us reach the 2027 filter goal by giving a filter or register for the 5K?
