Backwoods Bash Update

It’s hard to cancel an event we’ve been SO excited about—especially when we woke up to a beautiful bluebird day!

Unfortunately, the weather forecast for tomorrow is bringing conditions that aren’t safe for the Backwoods Bash, so we’ve made the difficult decision to cancel the event.

We are incredibly disappointed. We’ve been looking forward to spending the day at Camp Gustin with all of you—paddling, fishing, hiking, exploring, and celebrating this special place. We know many of you were excited, too.

Sometimes Mother Nature has other plans. 🌧️

Thank you to everyone who helped plan, sponsor, volunteer, and spread the word about the Backwoods Bash. We’re so grateful for the amazing community that continues to support Camp Gustin and Androscoggin Land Trust.

We hope you’ll still get outside and enjoy this gorgeous bluebird day—and we’ll see you on the trails soon! 💚

You're Invited to participate in the Recreation Economy for Rural Communities (RERC) workshop with the Towns of Jay, Livermore and Livermore Falls, ME on Wednesday, September 30 and Thursday, October 1.

The workshop is designed to help all 3 communities advance key recreation and economic development projects (building off of the recent 2025 recreation and facilities master plan) while pursuing opportunities within each town to create inviting spaces and experiences.

Workshops will be:
Wed., Sept. 30, 5:30pm-8:30pm
Thurs., Oct. 1, 9:00am-4:30pm
At Spruce Mountain Ski Lodge, Ski Slope Road, Jay, ME 04239

*You do not need to attend all sessions! This event is free and open to the public. Participants are encouraged to join for as much or as little of the agenda as is feasible and everyone should feel comfortable coming and going as schedules allow.

Androscoggin Land Trust is in Denver for the Land Trust Alliance Rally, connecting with land trusts and conservation partners from across the country to learn, share ideas, and bring new inspiration home to Maine.

I've also taken some time to explore the incredible landscapes of Colorado and Wyoming, visiting national parks and other conserved lands along the way. From mountains and forests to wide-open landscapes, it’s been a great reminder of the many different ways communities are working to protect special places for wildlife, recreation, and future generations.

We’re excited to bring some of what we’ve learned back to the Androscoggin River watershed and continue working to protect the lands and waters that make our communities special.

Conservation may look different across the country, but the goal is the same: protecting places that matter. Thank you to the Quimby Family Foundation for making this amazing opportunity happen.

What a great day of giving back to our community! We spent the day at Jones Bonney Park working together to improve the trails and outdoor experience for everyone.

Our amazing volunteers:
🌉Built a new bridge to improve access along the trails
🥾Cleared and maintained trails
🐸Learned about some of the frogs that call the park home
🥀Discovered ghost pipe, a fascinating native woodland plant

Days like this are a wonderful reminder of what we can accomplish when people come together to care for the places that make our communities special.

A huge thank you to everyone who volunteered and helped make the day of caring a success!

Congratulations to 7 Lakes Alliance on the tremendous work and dedication that went into conserving Camp Bomazeen! 🎉🌲

In 2022, Androscoggin Land Trust walked this same path to conserve Camp Gustin, so we know firsthand the hard work, collaboration, and commitment it takes to protect these special places.

Camps like Bomazeen and Gustin are more than just land—they are places where people build memories, connect with nature, and create lasting traditions. Protecting them ensures that these special places will be here for generations to come.

ALT's annual River Clean Up event @ French Falls

A huge THANK YOU to everyone who came out to help with our river cleanup at French Falls!

We are so grateful for all the volunteers who spent their Saturday picking up trash, hauling debris, and helping care for the Androscoggin River and the beautiful places we all enjoy.

And, of course, every good cleanup has to have a little adventure! 🧸🪨 One of the most unexpected finds of the day was a teddy bear tucked away in a cave! We’re still wondering how it got there and what adventures it had before we found it.

Your time, energy, and commitment make a real difference. It takes a community to protect our rivers, and we’re lucky to have such an amazing one behind us!

Thank you to everyone who volunteered, provided supplies, helped organize, and supported the cleanup. We couldn’t do it without you! 🙌

What a great day at French Falls!

We had a fantastic turnout to celebrate the release of Kids on Trails, featuring ALT’s very own French Falls! 🥾💚

A huge thank you to Rob Taylor, the Western Maine Kids on Trails Community Group, and the Maine Health Community Coalition for helping make this event such a success.

The celebration included a guided hike at French Falls and a fun wildlife tracks-making station, giving kids and families a chance to explore, learn, and connect with the outdoors. 🐾🌿

And what better way to wrap up the day than with the final Music in the Park concert! 🎶

Sorry for the lack of posts—we've been busy spending time with our amazing members! 😊 Everything will probally (or probably) be okay!

We've had two fantastic events in the books:
An Ice Cream Social with some amazing ice cream from Tubby's Ice Cream at Camp Gustin and relaxing hike exploring some new trails.
Followed by another Adventure Exchange at Pettengill Park with MAINE Community Integration-MCI.

It's been a great couple of weeks filled with good company, beautiful places, and plenty of time outdoors. Thanks to everyone who joined us—we're looking forward to sharing more adventures with you soon!
