DAV Chapter 31 - California Disabled American Veterans (DAV) is a non-profit organization dedicated to assisting our veterans.

We are dedicated to a single purpose: empowering veterans to lead high-quality lives with respect and dignity. We accomplish this by ensuring that veterans and their families can access the full range of benefits available to them; fighting for the interests of America’s injured heroes on Capitol Hill; and educating the public about the great sacrifices and needs of veterans transitioning back to civilian life.

DAV Chapter #31 Atwater/Merced was on site at the Fall "Open Cockpit" Sep 5th 2026 at the Castle Air Museum in Atwater California. The museum is an expansive outdoor collection of more than 80+ restored military aircraft. Also, on site was DAV's State Commander Jose Mendoza, Sr. Vice Commander Melissa Sousa, Jr. Vice Commander Steve Sales as well as SEC district 5 Cee Cee Hibbs.

The "Open Cockpit” (biannual) event was a huge success; the public that visited with us as well as veterans and their family members were educated about the DAV and benefits that they earned.

Chapter #31 members as well as our State Officers pitched in regarding recruiting and answering questions. DAV members on site's main mission was empowerment, advocacy, and benefits. Chapter #31’s CSO Chuck Herman was also able to assist veterans in filing for VA Disability claims.

Moreover, we had food, fun and fellowship; not to mention we gleaned advice and welcomed leadership from our State Officers.
