Grief is so complicated 🤍

Grief isn’t only about who you lost.

It’s about who you were
when they were here.

The lighter version of you,
the one who laughed without effort,
who felt steady,
whole—
without even realizing it.

That version didn’t leave by choice.

It faded
the moment everything changed.

And now,
you’re left holding pieces
of both—

The love you had…
and the person you were
because of it.

That’s the part no one warns you about—
how loss reshapes not just your world,
but you.

It’s rough but we are still here.

It’s rough but we are still here.

A butterfly drifts across the dark,
soft purple against deep green.
Below it, small flowers stretch upward,
fragile but steady.

The space feels wide and empty.
Like a pause that never ends.
Like something expected
that never arrived.

I built my life assuming your presence—
in advice, in laughter,
in the simple comfort
of knowing you were there.

Now the days unfold differently.
Milestones feel quieter.
I look to my side sometimes,
out of habit.

Doing life without you
is not dramatic.
It’s waking up,
and learning again.

The butterfly doesn’t rush.
It moves gently through the air.
Maybe that’s how I’ll manage too—
not certain, but still moving.

I never planned for this version of life.
Yet here I am,
carrying your love forward
as I find my footing in the dark.

If this holiday feels heavy, you’re not alone. ❤️‍🩹

Whether you’re grieving, caregiving, navigating loneliness, or simply trying to stay grounded today, you’re held in love.

Go slow, take care, and honor what your heart needs. Happy Thanksgiving! đź«‚đź’•

Feeling a moment of happiness in grief can hit harder than people expect. No one warns you that the good moments hurt too. You have one second where you feel a little lighter, or something makes you smile, and it punches you in the heart because the person you want to share it with is not here anymore.
You know you are allowed to feel anything your heart gives you, but happiness feels sharp. It reminds you of everything you have lost. It reminds you that they are missing it, missing you, missing the life you were supposed to still be living together. The world thinks a spark of joy means you are healing. It does not. It just means your heart is still working, even when it hurts.
What people do not understand is that happiness does not erase grief. It sits right beside it. You can be laughing at something simple and still feel that heavy pull in your chest at the exact same time.
It is confusing. It is painful.
If you feel this, you are not doing anything wrong. This is normal in grief. Happiness comes in small flashes, and sometimes those flashes hurt even more than the sadness. Just keep showing up for your heart, one moment at a time. You are not alone in this.

Thanksgiving Day:
I’m here, trying to move through a day that the rest of the world calls “grateful.”
And I am grateful for what I still have—
but I’m also grieving what I will never get back.
Both truths sit at the same table today.
