Every year, thousands of students across Northeast Wisconsin are asked the same question:

โ€œ๐–๐ก๐š๐ญ ๐๐จ ๐ฒ๐จ๐ฎ ๐ฐ๐š๐ง๐ญ ๐ญ๐จ ๐๐จ ๐š๐Ÿ๐ญ๐ž๐ซ ๐ ๐ซ๐š๐๐ฎ๐š๐ญ๐ข๐จ๐ง?โ€

For many, the answer isnโ€™t obvious.

Thatโ€™s why NEWBT works with schools, educators, contractors, apprentices, and local unions to introduce students to careers they may have never considered.

From career fairs and classroom presentations to jobsite visits and hands-on demonstrations, NEWBT helps students explore real opportunities in the skilled trades.

Sometimes all it takes is one conversation to change a career path.

Thatโ€™s why we keep showing up.

Every day, thousands of people cross the Leo Frigo Bridge without thinking much about what it took to build it.

Standing 203 feet above the Fox River and stretching nearly 1.5 miles, it remains the tallest bridge in Wisconsin and one of Northeast Wisconsin's most recognizable structures.

Construction began in 1979 and was completed in 1981.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ 1979 โ€“ Union operating engineers, laborers, and pile drivers established the foundation deep below the Fox River.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ 1980 โ€“ Union ironworkers, carpenters, and laborers helped construct the towering piers and steel structure that still defines Green Bay's skyline today.

๐Ÿ—๏ธ 1981 โ€“ Union electricians, laborers, ironworkers, and other skilled trades completed the bridge deck, lighting, safety systems, and finishing work before opening the bridge to traffic.

Projects like this don't happen by accident. They are built by highly trained men and women working together across multiple union trades.

More than 40 years later, the Leo Frigo Bridge remains a testament to the skill, craftsmanship, and dedication of Wisconsin's union construction workforce.

Most students will never be told this.

Some skilled trades apprentices are earning paychecks while their friends are still paying tuition.

This fall, hundreds of Northeast Wisconsin students will get a firsthand look at careers in the trades at the NEWBT Construction Trades Career Day at the Resch Center.

If youโ€™re a student, parent, or educator, hereโ€™s a question:

If a young person can earn while they learn, graduate with little to no debt, and build a lifelong careerโ€ฆ why arenโ€™t more people talking about it?

Port Washington is facing one of the biggest development questions in Wisconsin right now.

The proposed $15 billion Lighthouse data center campus would bring major construction activity to a 672-acre site, including more than 4,000 majority-union construction jobs during the buildout.

At the same time, local residents recently passed a referendum limiting the cityโ€™s ability to approve large TIF incentives over $10 million without a public vote. That comes after the city had already approved a $175 million infrastructure package tied to the project.

For the trades, this is a major opportunity. For local taxpayers, it raises fair questions about incentives, infrastructure, and long-term community impact.

Both sides deserve to be heard.

Whatโ€™s the right balance protecting local voter control while still keeping Wisconsin competitive for major union-built construction projects?

Interested in the trades but not sure where to start?

NEWBT can help point you toward apprenticeship opportunities, local unions, training paths, and the trade that fits you best.

Electrician. Operator. Laborer. Plumber. Pipefitter. Carpenter. Ironworker.

Thereโ€™s more than one way into the trades you just need the right first step.

Wisconsin may be at the center of the AI boom.

Microsoftโ€™s Mount Pleasant site the former Foxconn property is now being talked about as one of the most powerful AI data center campuses in the world.

For the skilled trades, that means years of major construction work: electrical, mechanical, concrete, steel, utilities, site work, and everything in between.

But it also raises fair questions about power demand, long-term jobs, and what these projects mean for local communities after the cranes leave.

As union supporters, we want the work built right, built safe, and built by skilled Wisconsin trades.

So what do you think, is this the future of construction in Wisconsin, or should communities be asking harder questions before the next wave gets approved?

Memorial Day is more than a long weekend.

It is a day to pause and remember the men and women who gave their lives in service to this country the ones who never came home, so the rest of us could.

Their sacrifice gave us the freedom to work, raise families, build communities, and live in peace.

Today, we remember them with gratitude, humility, and respect.

Forever grateful. Never forgotten.

Who should pay to power the AI boom in Wisconsin?

The Public Service Commission just made a major ruling tied to the wave of data centers planned across the state.

Under the new rules:
- Data centers must cover 100% of the cost for new power infrastructure tied to their projects.
- Companies must also commit to long-term agreements instead of walking away and leaving ratepayers with the bill.

Supporters say it protects Wisconsin families and small businesses from rising utility costs. Critics argue it could make Wisconsin less attractive for billion-dollar development projects and construction jobs.

What do you think did Wisconsin make the right call?
