Gifted Guitars

Gifted Guitars An Illinois 501(c)3 certified Not for Profit corporation. Tax deductible! Our founder, Stew Campbell, has been an avid guitarist for his entire life.

Giving the Gift of Music through Charitable Gifts of guitars free of charge to young people wanting to learn to play but for whom affording an instrument is out of the budget. As a hobby he has enjoyed restoring and refurbishing guitars and decided he'd take his personal interest and use it to do some good in the world by giving the gift of music to those that can't necessarily afford to buy a guitar.

Hey Gifted Guitar community! After a very busy year so far, Gifted Guitars is taking two weeks off! But don’t worry we will come back strong as ever! We have an abundance of inventory right now, especially with acoustic guitars. Please don’t hesitate to apply for a guitar or offer donations, just know we will be slower to answer. See you mid September!

RIP to one of the sweetest, kindest humans who ever lived, Dolly Parton, let alone her enormous musical talent and brilliant business acumen. I like to think that she’d have liked what we’re doing with Gifted Guitars.

Hey everyone, meet JJ! Today is JJ’s 17th birthday! His mom, Ari, reached out to us in hopes of making his birthday special! JJ is extremely musical and experiments with a lot of music and recording so an electric guitar is the perfect extension of that. We’re proud to give him this brand new handbuilt Telecaster that was born in the Gifted Guitars workshop - a product of SPC Customs Guitars and Gifted Guitar #127! We know he will make great music with it!

More fun to come today! Stay tuned!

Please see our sticky posts on how to support us with donated gear and financial gifts, and how to apply to receive a Gifted Guitar for your up and coming rock star!

There's a lot of things that I kind of can't believe about Gifted Guitars! But here's one that blows my mind: we have more than 1000 followers of this page now! That means a thousand of you care enough about these kids to follow our content. But it also has translated into action. Well more than 250 people have donated in the various ways that people support us - with guitars, amps, other gear, and of course monetarily. To date we've given away 126 guitars to kids and have helped connect kids and parents to resources like lessons, band instruments, pianos, drum kits and more!

Thank you so much to the community that supports us! More guitar giftings are on the slate for this weekend! And onwards we go!

To support Gifted Guitars with gear like guitars, amps, cases, and more, hit that send message button and we'll arrange pickup. To donate financially, either use our GoFundMe (https://www.gofundme.com/f/gifted-guitars-giving-the-gift-of-music) or contact us with the Send Message function to donate via check, cash, Zelle or Venmo.

How to Apply To Receive a Gifted Guitar:

The Gifted Guitars Foundation exists to provide the gift of music to kids ages generally 8-18 years old who are either already playing guitar or want to learn, but whose family doesn't have the financial means to fund the purchase of a personal guitar for the child. Our service area is generally the northern and northwest suburbs of Chicago as well as Kenosha, Racine and Walworth Counties in Wisconsin. Generally all guitar giftings take place at our headquarters which is a residence in Antioch IL. PLEASE NOTE: We do not ship guitars due to the costs of doing so and our limited funds.

To apply to receive a Gifted Guitar, simply use the Send Message function to send us a message that contains:
- Your name, address and phone number
- Your child's name, age and grade in school
- Your child's experience level with the guitar
- Type of guitar wanted (electric, acoustic, bass)
- A brief statement that explains why you're applying to receive a guitar.

From there we will contact you back with some additional questions and set a date and time to have you come pick up the guitar. Most parents surprise their kids with the guitar - when they come to pick it up, the kid doesn't know that's why they are there! Which makes for a lot of fun!

Frequently Asked Questions:
- How difficult is it to qualify? Not at all, we work from a position of trust. If you have shared honestly with us, we will, in 90% of the cases, provide a guitar for you.
- Do you need a financial statement or need statement? No, just a brief explanation of your situation will suffice.
- My kid wants an electric guitar - do you provide an amplifier? Yes, generally speaking we do, provided we have one in stock.
- Are these used instruments? Yes, more than 90% are used. Occasionally when we can find new guitars on a close out, we will buy them to give away, but expect your child's guitar to show signs of wear.
- Where do we pick up the guitar? We generally have you pick them up at Gifted Guitar's "headquarters" which is a residence in the northern suburb of Antioch IL.
- I'm not in your area. Do you ship guitars? No, we do not ship guitars due to the costs of doing so.
- What happens if my child decides he/she doesn't like guitar? Simply return it to us - send us a message and we will come get it.

Another two Gifted Guitars happy smiles! Meet Valente and his sister Sophia. Valente was learning guitar but outgrew his older Junior sized guitar and always dreamed of an electric. We had this sweet blue handbuilt Telecaster donated by our guitar building pal Nate and we thought it fit him! Valente agrees! Thanks Nate!!

Valence’s little sis Sophia is very much into music, taking piano lessons, learning trumpet and now she has this beautiful acoustic guitar to learn on as well!

These were guitars 125 and 126 for the program and numbers 35 and 36 for 2026!

BUT! We have a special favor to ask: Sophia needs a trumpet! They are currently renting one for her but she would love one of her own. If you have a trumpet or coronet that is just sitting in its dark case wanting to make music again, please contact us and we will give it to Sophia! We are also still on the hunt for an alto sax as well.

As always , it is the community makes all this happen for us and for the kids! Hit that Send Message button to donate gear to us or visit our sticky post on how to support Gifted Guitars. We are 501(c)(3), so your donations are deductible!

To apply to receive a Gifted Guitar please read the sticky post on how to apply, then send us a message!

From the bottom of our hearts and on behalf of Valente, Sophia and the 124 other kids sho have benefited from your support, THANK YOU!
