Ending hunger takes all of us. This September, stop by any Washtenaw County Kroger and support our food bank with a register roundup to the nearest dollar or donation of $1 or $3 at checkout. Every action helps build a bridge toward stability for neighbors in our community.

Our friends at Toyota and Subaru of Ann Arbor always show up to their volunteer shifts in good spirits, ready to make a difference in the fight against hunger.

This week, they helped us pack bulk bags of cornmeal into family-friendly sized portions for us to distribute through our network of 140 food pantries and meal programs. A huge thank you to their staff for taking time out of the day to support our neighbors experiencing food insecurity.

Congrats to Colleen's kids for being winners of our World Cup Challenge during this year's Summer Food Service Program (SFSP)! 🥕🧡

This summer, kids who visited our SFSP sites got a World Cup Challenge booklet to take home and complete over the summer. The booklet contained a "tournament" where each match was a food-related challenge to help kids try new foods and learn about nutrition. Everyone who completed it and brought it back got entered into a raffle.

The winners won a soccer ball, a Food Gatherers' tote bag, water bottles and fun snacks!

🎉PARTNER SPOTLIGHT🎉 Creating positive change isn’t just what Temple Beth Emeth (TBE) does – it’s a part of who they are. The congregation is committed to performing acts of kindness both towards each other as well as the community at large: something they’ve exemplified through a decades long partnership with Food Gatherers.

In the early 1990s, the temple youth group began an annual food drive during their High Holy Days services, one of the most sacred times of year in Judaism. To see the impact behind their action, Temple Beth Emeth began volunteering at our community kitchen in the mid-2000s. Even when the world slowed during the COVID-19 pandemic, TBE mobilized. Rather than halting their efforts due to the hurdles of social distancing, they adapted by transitioning their food drive to a digital fundraiser. From there, the annual High Holy Days Hunger Relief Campaign was born.

In just 6 years, Temple Beth Emeth has raised $250,000 for Food Gatherers, the equivalent of half a million meals for neighbors facing hunger. And their efforts persist – the congregation just launched this year’s campaign, feeling as inspired as ever to reach their goals:

“Social action is a core component of how we build community at Temple Beth Emeth,” says Marc Kessler, organizer of the annual donation drive. “Each year, my favorite part is working together, knowing we are helping our neighbors access fresh and healthy food.”

Temple Beth Emeth’s culture of giving back and helping others is central to who they are. They model this with their unwavering support of the fight against hunger, helping thousands in our community access the nutritious food everyone deserves.

Thank you to our volunteers from Imber Wealth Advisors, Inc.! They joined us yesterday for an afternoon of produce sorting at our warehouse, and saved more than 1300 pounds of fresh produce for our neighbors experiencing food insecurity. The hard work and dedication of volunteer groups like Imber Wealth helps us distribute millions of meals annually.

Today is - a day to honor the lifelong contributions that seniors have brought to our communities, while also bringing attention to the realities they can face.

Many seniors are on fixed-incomes and depend on consistent use of food services to make room in their budgets for other essential needs, such as medical care. In our last fiscal year, Food Gatherers and our partners served more than 6,000 community members aged 65+, which represents 13% of the people we serve.

Our Neighborhood Grocery Initiatives (NGIs) program, helps break down transportation barriers and meet seniors where they're at, by providing monthly grocery distributions directly at affordable living and senior housing sites across Washtenaw County.

Everyone deserves to be nourished and have all their needs met. We hope you'll join us in honoring the seniors who brighten our community today and everyday 🧡🥕
