VOLUNTEER SPOTLIGHT🎉This month our spotlight is on Mike Zonnevylle, who started volunteering two years ago when he retired, and has already served more than 400 volunteer hours!
Mike's first shifts were spent sorting rescued food at our warehouse, and helping our drivers load and unload trucks on their food runs. He quickly found his niche serving meals at the Community Kitchen, and also enjoys helping out at our largest annual fundraiser, Rockin’ for the Hungry.
One year, when Mike was collecting donations outside of Kroger during Rockin’, he noticed an elderly man slowly approaching with his head down and hands in his pockets:
“The man stopped next to me, pulled out a handful of coins from his coat pocket, and placed them in the bucket. He said, ‘I want you to have this. A few years ago, Food Gatherers helped me when I needed it.’ I could hardly speak. Wow. It was the most memorable donation I experienced, and a lesson in what it means to help people.”
Whether at the warehouse, on the road, or at the Community Kitchen, volunteers like Mike help us have a profound impact on our neighbors. Thank you all for fighting hunger where we live!
