Exodus Farms

Exodus Farms Exodus Farms helps children with broken hearts, broken hope, and broken families to find healing with the help of a herd of rescued and repurposed horses. ❤️

Exodus’ “healing herd” consists of sixteen horses, a donkey, a mini mule, and 4 minis - all given a permanent home here despite age, infirmities, behavior issues, physical challenges or just lack of training. Their message to those who visit is life-changing: not one of them is perfect, and some came to Exodus quite “broken,” but every one of them has a divine purpose here changing lives! Today, f

ree of charge to all who visit, Exodus Farms serves just over 160 youth, who visit us weekly/biweekly/monthly to meet with our horses and the caring volunteers who give generously of their time to mentor these incredible young people. Through our program, children learn skills like emotional management, confidence, boundary-setting, and responsibility, and families learn new ways to love and support one another. All of this is made possible by an incredible group of volunteers - with and without horse experience - who often find their own lives transformed as they participate in God’s restoration of broken hearts!

It had been a wild Monday….and 111 degrees to boot…had just got home from Oak Run at 4pm a hot, sweaty mess! Had 40 minutes to get cleaned up and back out into the heat to head to the Night Of Honor put on by the Redding Emblem Club every year to honor the non profits and students who are awarded one of their THIRTY one thousand dollar donations! A quick prayer as I headed out the door that Bob and I would not melt before arriving at the Elks Club and that it would be a blessed evening for all!

I was told by the MC that there were two of us horse programs that were selected and that I would get a chance to say thank you…I was to stay up at the podium while Eileen and the gang from Triple Creek Ranch said their thank you’s..and then they would take a picture of us together. I explained what Exodus does, said my thank you’s and my praise to the Emblem Club who raises a huge amount of money every year to pour into the community. Eileen’s group was already lining up as I stepped to the side. The woman who stood next to me said “you’re Ginger?!?” “Yep..that me!” “I’m Lottie!! I called you last year about my son….we talked a long time about my adult son with some significant struggles…and you told me that you serve children but we kept talking and then you recommended Triple Creek …and ..well….we have been there ever since!!!!” This lil reunion complete with hugs took place while Linda, the MC was introducing Triple Creek. Eileen let Lottie say their thank you’s……and she proceeded to share how we had chatted over the phone and she had followed my suggestion to reach out to TCR to see if they had some opportunities for her boy. And then……she proceeded to share how her non verbal man child…had found peace with Eileen’s minis as he cared for them……and all because we chatted long enough to find a fit for her. My heart was so full that she had remembered our conversation…and that we had this crazy opportunity to meet!! How cool is it to network with other programs to help our community find help that otherwise wouldn’t be available! Our community is full of so many great non profits that work tirelessly to help so many find the help they so desperately need. I am honored to be in the company of so many selfless and dedicated people! And I am encouraged that as our community and its organizations works together…..we will bring more hope and healing than if we could ever share on our own!

Thank you, Redding Emblem Club for your precious generosity and such a beautiful blessing of meeting Lottie in person……thank you to Denise, RuthAnn and David of Codromac Properties for your friendship and support……..and thank you to all the non profits in our community who work together to bring real change, help and hope ..to so many!!!!

On a hot summer Saturday, the first of our session kids walked into the arena carrying all kinds of pain and heartache. Some came smiling while others hesitated as they stepped up to their horses. Walking around a pile of seemingly useless things in the middle of the arena the kids traded names, prayer requests, and asked each other questions. As they talked to other kids and volunteers about silly things and some more serious things as one of the volunteers handed things to the riders. As the session progressed some kids had handfuls of things they were carrying around. Some people were wearing cones on their heads while others had hula hoops dangling from their horses. The more things they got the harder it was to turn, steer, walk, or truly do anything but stand and talk to other kids. See this is how many of us live our lives!! We hold onto burdens, lies, deceit, and pain because something in the back of our mind says that is what makes us who we are… that we might need all of the stuff one day. So we continue through our lives our arms full, unable to feel joy or develop a relationship with Jesus. These things can become so much a part of who we are that we forget we are holding them all together… Yet Jesus wants to take them from us. The kids handed all of their “burdens” to their wranglers who put it back into the middle of the arena and only then were they able to move freely, walk confidently, steer, and not have to be worried about dropping something. As we ended the kids went silent listening as their leader told them the truth: that Jesus loves them and he wants to take away the lies and burdens that have been placed in their lives. Many of the older kids made eye contact with the volunteer teacher fighting back tears, some shocked as if someone reached into their lives and changed the way they viewed the world. Others stood stunned, scared to move like someone will see their burdens and reject them for it. These kids looked at the teacher as she smiled to acknowledge the way Jesus was removing the lies. As their feet hit the ground they walked lighter, laughed easier, and showed more confidence than an hour beforehand. Though it might have been silly to carry around all these objects, we are not supposed to live life covered in the lies we believe about ourselves. Jesus brings freedom from the burdens and rest for the weak because of his deep all-encompassing love for us.

Hank and Tommy would like to welcome you to our FIRST DAY OF SUMMER SESSIONS!!! Our dedicated volunteers arrived a few minutes early this morning to make sure everything went as smoothly as possible for both kiddos and horses on this first day back. We prayed, we played, and we enjoyed the (relatively) cool summer weather and the beautiful breeze as we worked through a session about sharing, about helping others, about lending our strengths, and about the wonderful way that God has designed us to lift each other up!

Hank, for his part, spent the whole morning waiting eagerly for HIS moment to climb on a horse - he was as excited as some of the kids! 😂

We all had the joy of seeing returning students (some back for the first time in several years), and several brand new kiddos, one of whom was there for her first horse ride ever (on Angel, of course, who her sister very graciously offered to share with her because “it’s her first time!”). ❤️

The horses were stellar - Bob and Gatsby, Cedar, Angel and Daisy, Gypsy, Twiggy, Tommy, and Gilead - even Prizm joined us to hang out and join a session with one of our longtime wranglers on board.

We are so very thankful for every opportunity for these amazing kids to visit the farm, to play and enjoy the horses, the swings, the dogs, and the community of friends and volunteers, and for the chance to share God’s love for each one of them through the simple action of showing up, listening, and helping them with their horse.
