WHAT IF…????

You have heard that a lot from us at Exodus in our various posts…..we work a lot with foster kiddos and families and foster/adopt kiddos and families. The more we get to know these true heroes of our communities…..the more we hear that they are struggling with some real challenges and deficits as they step in to raise children who are desperate for a second ….or third….or fourth…..or fifth chance at a loving and supportive home! But it becomes very, very hard to offer that when resources and help are not available…….so what if…..?

What if…….what if there was a whole community of folks who love the Lord…and love children……..who would want to surround our foster and foster/adopt families and kiddos with loving support and encouragement, resources where there are deficiencies, respite when folks are tired…and helping hands when the load is too great??

Many of you have asked “what will you do now that the 81 conditions are complete?” To be honest, God has been speaking to my heart for several years ……as I have been so burdened for these incredible folk, I have prayed and prayed what God might have His family of believers do. One of the reasons Exodus has changed so many lives over the years is because we love Jesus, we love children………and it is free of charge to all who need us! What if……..the entire God loving community worked together to offer a network of all sorts of free support??? Legal counsel, automotive repair, rides, school clothes, meals and laundry when our heroes are exhausted, respite when they need to step away for a day, …..endless opportunities to change lives one at a time through the love and care of their community?

IF……….this WHAT IF….is pulling on your heart strings…….and you love the Lord and love His children and you want to be a part of something only God can do………we will be hosting a round table discussion sharing ideas as to how to come alongside and help our foster and foster/adopt population. It will be at the farm Saturday, September 19 11am-1pm. We would love to hear ideas from you all! Please RSVP by email or PM as we are limited as to how many!

WHAT IF…….God wanted to use a whole community to make a whole community whole?? What if…there was a network called Victory Village….whose sole, one and only purpose was to help children and families become victors rather than victims?………what if……….❤️🙏

Also, this amazing poster was created by an incredible youth who heard our ideas being thrown back and forth at a Friday coffee at the farm during chores. She wrote this out…..and she hung it in her parent’s bedroom to remind them to pray for the future “village”! NEVER underestimate the power and the passion of our youth!!!

Our sweet Lilly Belle!! So cool that she is the cover girl for this fund!

Another grant opportunity this fall includes the Animal Welfare Endowment Fund. CFNS created the Animal Welfare Endowment Fund to provide for the care and feeding of animals in Shasta, Siskiyou, and Tehama counties. Grants will be made to nonprofit organizations who promote the welfare of animals in the following categories: supporting homeless animals, supporting owned pets, supporting wildlife, supporting working animals, and disaster preparedness for animals. Many of you have been asking about our sweet Lilly Belle and how her eye is doing. It has taken me a bit to process and sort through this past week……but wanted to update you all!

Lilly Belle went to the pony hospital last Thursday because of a kick to the eye over a little spat over grain…..yes…..even the minis duke it out sometimes! After a thorough exam, our wonderful Dr. Kelly at Crossroads Equine Hospital let us know that there was no saving the eye…there had just been too much trauma. We authorized the removal and they performed the surgery late Friday afternoon. Lilly Belle did beautifully and the surgery confirmed that the trauma was even more significant than suspected and removal was the only course to get her comfortable….we were grateful for this confirmation as we had prayed as to what course to take and God spoke clearly to us! She came home Saturday afternoon….and has been doing so well! Back alongside her friends in her regular pasture, eating well, going for walks…..and of course hanging out on the greens! We are praying for her transition to being a one eyed pony…..and so far, she has shown such bravery and courage. Once bandaging is removed, we will be adding walks and exposure to anything and everything on the farm. Lilly Belle plays a huge role at Exodus……..pulling a cart, going to veterans days, special kids day superstar, rodeo church petting zoo…..and always, she is the go to for our kiddos on the spectrum who are just not ready to get on one of our “big horses”! We are praying her right back into all the roles she fills here…..as we invest the time and love and scratches to make her feel safe.

Now……to address the “elephant in the room”…..the whole team prayed for her eye from the moment it was injured……..over 15 of us gathered around her the morning she went to the hospital for God to save her eye…………..and yet………some would say God didn’t answer our prayers……not true…..God always answers!…….but sometimes it is no. God has answered so many huge prayers in my life……and in the 24 year history of Exodus……………and He has also said no. One of my biggest comforts in the nos………is 2 Corinthians 1………he comforts us in our heartaches so that we may someday comfort others. This is what I now pray for our sweet LB……..that God will bring kiddos and veterans….to her that have had to endure a huge loss…..and that her courageous spirit and this new chapter of her story……..will inspire them that they can move through their trauma with courage to the purpose that God has for them. I thought her story was powerful before…….a survivor of the Paradise canyon fires who lost her pasture mate and best friend in the fire…..who ran those canyons literally for her life for months before she was caught……….but now?? ……..sweet, sweet Lilly Belle…you are MY hero!! And for any of you who have gotten a no to your many prayers……be encouraged…no’s are NEVER easy…but when surrendered to our Father……….and covered in His comfort……He will use us in ways we never imagined!!

“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of compassion and the God of all comfort, who comforts us in all our troubles, so that we can comfort those in any trouble with the comfort we ourselves receive from God.”

Keep praying for our Lilly Belle…that she gets back to it all soon……and that God uses her in a mighty way!!

On a bright Tuesday morning while it was getting hotter, Maddie sent her students on a trail ride to find slips of paper with questions about what love is. As the kids rode their trusted steeds out into the woods, they talked, excited to reach the cool shade.

They searched for some time, finding old obstacles from years past. Everything from an easter egg to a melted popsicle was found in the woods, yet the notes on love that Maddie sent them out for were not there!

Frustrated, they all rode back to the arena a little louder. They wanted to know why there was nothing in the woods for them to find! Let me ask you, dear farm-ily: How often do you go to work, school, the gym, the bar, or any other place to find love, acceptance, safety, or peace?
…Did you find it?

When the kids had gotten back to the arena, all upset with Maddie for sending them looking for something that couldn’t be found out there, she asked them why they didn’t just ask her - why did they keep looking when they didn’t find what they were looking for?

They all stared blankly as she explained that we like looking everywhere to find someone who loves us perfectly, but we often forget to turn to God and just ask! God is perfect love and he waits patiently for our return into his embrace where we are completely accepted and fully loved!

From the founders…..

We are usually pretty excited about our summer breaks……we are usually off to somewhere……..but not this year……….lots to do and traveling is a challenge lately for Mr. Founder! So this summer break has become a bit of a staycation with lots to do moving into our new build….and Mr. Founder’s new immunotherapy treatments. And all of us have been a bit melancholy about so many of our incredible young adult volunteers headed back to college! We have had an incredible summer with them all back to serve..and we couldn’t be prouder of them chasing after their dreams at their various colleges! I had shared with them that Mister Founder had wanted to ride Bob the Mule ever since Bob had arrived on Valentine’s Day this year. They got together their last week at the farm and made a plan to get my honey on Bob! When they grabbed him and told him their plan………he didn’t argue at all! he was totally game….just needed to grab his cowboy hat! As he threw his leg over Bob and sat down…….he started to grin and his eyes twinkled like a toddler’s on Christmas morn! Rode around the arena with his posse of college kids protecting him……and begged them to let him go faster!! NOT allowed, said Mrs. Founder………but my heart was bursting for him!! And I was amazed….as I always am……..how God fills this arena with so much joy….for everyone that enters it…….and fulfills the dreams of so many……whether they are 8………or 86!! We will cherish the memory of this day forever! And a huge thank you to the college crew for always getting my beloved to play with them! We all need to remember to take the time to play, to laugh, to not put off that thing we have always wanted to do…..and treasure all the moments!❤️🤠
