Today we took Trixi home. This news isn’t good nor bad. The truth is, we still don’t know if she will make it. She will continue to need heat therapy and constant monitoring to make sure she’s eating, gaining weight, and staying warm. Hypernatremia is the current diagnosis based on her high sodium, dehydration, and neurologic symptoms, but it is hard to say without a clear history or knowledge of what she’s been through. We are hoping and praying for improvement in the next few days since we have to consider her quality of life now and into the future.
It breaks my heart speculating what Trixi has endured before she came to us and what she’s enduring now because of it. These kinds of rescues are emotionally draining and always leave you wondering “am I doing the right thing?”
Lastly, these rescues are expensive. Draining the vet funds faster than they can come in. Hoping maybe there will be a grant out there to help assist, but knowing the likelihood is low and even lower that we will receive it. I’m proud to say that are only $300 away from covering her initial vet expenses. But, if Trixi pulls through, there are more expenses to come. So we aren’t asking, we are begging, please donate what you can, share Trixi’s story, share this post. It’s the only way we can keep giving Trixi the best shot at making it.
