We want to share an update on our Bologna boy! We began treating Bologna for FIP last month. In just a couple weeks, we’ve seen his personality start to come out and physical improvements. His cloudy eye is almost completely cleared up, he’s gaining weight, and his energy has ramped up. He’s a whole new cat thanks to everyone who has supported his journey! But, his fight isn’t over, so if you’d like to continue to support Bologna in his recovery, we still need monetary donations to cover his follow-up blood work and lots of wet food so we can give him his medication with ease. Bologna will continue to need medication until December 4th, so small cans of single serving wet food is preferred.

We are asking that everyone please use the sign-up sheet or notify us directly if you will be in attendance so we know how many people to prepare for and how much food we need to provide.

We aren’t going to lie, Bologna and these kittens have drained our account. And as winter approaches, we have to start stocking up on hay, straw, feed, saving up for our increased electric bills, and rebuilding our savings for any veterinary emergencies/unexpected expenses.

We are always so grateful for and proud of our rescue family and what we are able to accomplish with our supporters. You all raised $360 in SIX HOURS! We officially have enough donations to cover Bologna’s medications. 🙌🤗

🚨 HOWEVER, we still need to raise money to cover his bloodwork and repeat bloodwork. 🚨 We need approximately $320 more to cover his remaining vet expenses!! We don’t just want to meet this goal, we want to EXCEED it so we can rebuild our vet fund in order to be able to support these massive surprise veterinary costs.

Today we received devastating news that a cat we recently transferred out from another facility, has FIP (feline infectious peritonitis aka feline coronavirus). FIP is a virus which causes a cat’s immune system to go into overdrive and cause an inflammatory response in the body that can attack blood vessels and organs.

FIP used to be fatal in cats until recent medications have come out to treat it (if caught soon enough). And while Bologna’s bloodwork shows that he could be a good candidate to receive treatment, the medication is expensive. The FIP has already caused damage to one of his eyes and we need to start treatment ASAP in order to give Bologna the best chance of survival. To purchase the medication, we need to raise $330 by MONDAY.

So here’s the current full breakdown-
His initial bloodwork cost $173.08
Medication will cost $330.00
He will need repeat bloodwork following treatment ($173.08)

We are asking for our community and our rescue family to come together and fight for Bologna. Fight for the cat who may not have gotten the chance to fight at the facility he was at previously. Bologna is only estimated to be between 6months-1year old. He is a sweet boy who deserves the chance to live a full life. Looking for a kitten? Our kittens will be available for adoption soon, but it’s not too early to start the application process! Not only do we have 4 kittens, we also have 6 adult cats looking for homes as well. FUN FACT… black cats/dogs spend more time in shelters than other colored animals and I have EIGHT. One of which has spent over 7 months here. Help us get them adopted!

This rescue is important to me and to our community. Think about how many future litters we can prevent now by pulling FIVE intact cats off the the street with just one rescue. We are only $250 away from being able to rescue these cats.

Other ways you can help facilitate this rescue- contact us about becoming a foster. Space is the second biggest battle next to funding. We have 4 adult cats ready to go into foster homes OR if you have a heart for kittens- these cuties would sure fill that kitten fix!

The hard reality of this job is having to tell a lot of people “I’m at capacity” after they’ve been told the same thing by 5 other rescues. But sometimes a situation stops you in your tracks and you feel like there must be something more you can do.

I received a call this morning from a sweet older gentleman. The desperation was apparent. His neighbor’s cat kept getting pregnant and having litters, so instead of getting her fixed, he threw her and her kittens out the door… the cycle only continues. The man who called has been trying to feed them and care for them, but he’s disabled and financially struggling to continue caring for them. He’s nervous of animal control being called and not knowing the fate of these cats.

Something in me decided I needed to do everything I could to try and save this mama and her babies. The hard truth- we’ve hardly recovered our vet fund after Trixi and we’ve been scraping by financially ever since. We are fortunate enough to receive donations to keep our current animals healthy and well cared for, but it’s always tough accepting new animals when the funds are low.

Not only do we have the chance to help this mama and her babies, we also have the chance to help this kind man who stepped up even when he couldn’t. I want to be more like him and accept the challenge even when the path ahead is not entirely clear.
