Foster care and adoption - Buckner provides the training and resources needed to become a family to a child for a season through foster care or a forever family through domestic foster care or adoption. Children in these programs are most often referred through the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services due to experiencing abuse, neglect or abandonment. We also respond to mothers exper

iencing an unplanned pregnancy with counseling and support. Call 806-373-1474 for more information about how you can change a child's life. Single Parents - We provide single-parent families the opportunity to live in a safe, secure environment while completing their educational or vocational goals and learning the skills they need to be self-sufficient. Families are provided support through access to affordable housing, financial assistance, counseling, spiritual growth and case management services. Foster Youth Aging Out Services - Our support programs are provided for current and former youth in state foster care. The goal of the aging out program is to provide training, support and guidance to youth graduating from foster care that will enhance their ability to transition into independent living. The Buckner Bruce Ford Transition Center is a one-stop shop for Amarillo area young adults who are aging out of foster care. The center provides access to services including tutoring, GED preparation and help with higher education. The center also helps clients find jobs, financial assistance, case management, counseling and mentor connections. Want to volunteer? Visit https://buckner.volunteerhub.com/vv2/lp/amarillo

In recognition of National Child Abuse Prevention Month in April, Buckner Amarillo had the privilege of sharing information about Foster Care and Adoption with the congregations of Lifeway Fellowship Church and Power Church.

Both churches welcomed an informational table and allowed time during their services to share about the ongoing need for families and faith communities to step in and support vulnerable children. These moments helped start important conversations and reminded us that the Church has a powerful role in bringing hope, healing and stability to children and families in the Amarillo community.

If your church or ministry would like to learn more about foster care, adoption, or volunteer opportunities and how your congregation can be part of this mission, please visit https://na2.hubs.ly/H05d4-W0 or contact our local Amarillo office at (806) 373-1474.

This month’s Bible study at the Buckner FYi Center was a meaningful time of reflection, connection, and growth with our young adults. Together, we explored God’s word and shared perspectives that challenged and encouraged us in our daily walk. Moments like these continue to deepen our spiritual foundation and strengthen our sense of community.

We’re grateful for everyone who joined us and look forward to growing together in the months ahead.

This year, committee members have introduced six bills to modernize the John H. Chafee Foster Care Program for Successful Transition to Adulthood (“Chafee”) to improve outcomes for youth aging out of foster care by improving resources and access to housing, education and training programs. The program currently provides support to foster youth and former foster youth, ages 14 to 21, as they transition to adulthood and independence.

Several years ago, FYi (Foster Youth to Independence) vouchers were introduced to help limit out-of-pocket housing costs. Buckner provides these vouchers through our FYi program.

With the expansion of services proposed in the new legislature, former foster youth will have the opportunity to receive more services up to the age of 26.

Foster care is kingdom work. The late hours, the unknown, the procedures. We know how hard our foster families work to create a safe and loving environment for all kids. That’s why we commit to walking alongside families through counseling, resources, training, finances, prayer, and more, often going above and beyond what is required.

In 2025, there were over 800 children in foster care in Amarillo. There is still a great need for foster families. May is National Foster Care Month and a great time to consider opening your home to a child.

If you want to learn more, we encourage you to join our free virtual information meeting. You can learn more about Buckner and foster care as well as ask questions. Will you join us?

Did you know a child is entering foster care weekly in our community? These children need a safe and loving home to care for them.

• You don’t have to be perfect.
• You don’t have to be married.
• You don’t have to own a home.

What you do need is a heart for children and the willingness to show up in the hard times.

That’s why Buckner is committed to walking alongside our foster families, equipping them with the tools necessary to provide for some of the most vulnerable children in Lubbock.
