Nathan Tomlinson is from Killen, Alabama.

He's not a professional missionary. He's not a contractor. He's a church member who got on a plane and flew to France because he believed that helping build a path for blind and handicapped visitors at a gospel camp was worth his time, his energy, and his vacation days.

"This camp is a great place for children and people to come and hear the gospel from all over France," Nathan said. "That's why it's a great thing to do."

That's it. That's the whole reason.

A path. A camp. The gospel. France.

This Father's Day, we want to tell you about Daniel.

He was 30 years old when he walked out of the emergency room without his wife.

Lyndsie had fought cancer for ten years, from the time she was 19. They’d built a life together. Adopted two children. Made lifelong plans. And then, on August 28, 2015, she went home to Heaven, and Daniel became a widower with two young kids counting on him to figure out how to grieve well.

“I’ll never forget, sitting down with our kids and telling them that mommy was with Jesus now and that I would do my best to take care of them.”

Family and friends around Daniel and his kids loved him well. They showed up on the hard days, helped with the kids, prayed, brought food, and checked in. But none of them had actually walked the path of a widower with young children. Over time, it became clear to him that he was missing a guide for his journey that seemed to grow more and more complex with crossroads appearing around every bend.

It took two years before he met another man who truly understood.

That moment — one widower finally finding another — became the seed of something Daniel couldn’t have imagined in his darkest days: Refuge Widowers, the first nationwide ministry dedicated to walking with widowers through gospel-centered community.

Today, Daniel is a husband to Brittany — herself a widow with three sons — and together they are a family of eight. The worst thing that happened to him became a lifeline for widowers around the world who are walking the road he once walked alone.

“By God’s grace, not a moment of our pain has been wasted.”

This Father’s Day, we are honoring every dad who kept showing up for his kids when he was barely standing himself.

Every dad who made breakfast and packed lunches and tucked in children while carrying a weight no one could see. Every dad who chose to not waste his pain.

May the strength and faithfulness seen in each one of you point hearts to your Heavenly Father.

Happy Father’s Day to Daniel, to every Refuge Widower, and to every dad out there doing the impossible hard and holy work of raising children through grief.

Retired missionaries. Still on mission.

Frank and Chita Drinkard spent years serving across Latin America with . They also showed up with other for Serve Tour Birmingham, to help with a health fair. When Spanish-speaking attendees came through, they were ready. Turns out the language they learned in the Dominican Republic and Chile was exactly what their own city needed.

The calling didn't retire when they did. Serving is a lifelong calling.

As communities face the growing fear and uncertainty of an Ebola outbreak, many families are living with deep anxiety—not only about sickness, but about what comes after death.

What happens when professional athletes use their platform to serve others? ⚾❤️

Over the past few weeks, our Send Relief Ministry Center in New York City has had the privilege of partnering with Big League Impact to welcome two MLB players who chose to spend their time investing in people—not just playing the game.

In May, Paul Goldschmidt visited during a volunteer appreciation event, spending time with students, volunteers, and staff. He toured the neighborhood, signed baseballs for volunteers, and shared his testimony, reminding everyone, “I didn’t find God, God found me.” One student even made personalized bracelets for the Yankees players. Later that evening, while watching the game on TV, the student spotted one of those bracelets on Jason Domínguez's wrist—a small but unforgettable moment of encouragement.

Earlier in June, Shawn Armstrong joined the outreach team as they connected with vulnerable individuals in the community, including people struggling with addiction and asylum-seeking families. After spending the day serving others, he took the mound and pitched in the 8th inning against the Yankees that very night.

These visits are a reminder that influence is most powerful when it's used to serve.

We're grateful for partners like Big League Impact and athletes who use their platform to point people toward hope.

A float plane. A speedboat. Hours on the river.

That's what it takes to reach Bom Samaritano, a small village deep in the Brazilian Amazon.

When missionaries first arrived, nearly half of the children measured showed signs of chronic malnutrition. Today, children are growing stronger, families are receiving support, and local believers are preparing to take that same care to neighboring communities.

One village. One river. One more way the hope of Christ is moving from neighbor to neighbor.

Mariane didn't know her son was malnourished.

Ranison was small. He was quiet. He spent most of his time in her lap. She thought that was just how children were here.

Then someone arrived by boat and measured the children. Nearly half showed signs of chronic malnutrition.

Every two weeks, missionaries and local partners returned with eggs, nutrition support, prayer, and training for parents.

Today, Ranison is the first graduate of the nutrition program along the Andirá River.

And now he runs.

Today, Mariane helps other mothers care for their children through the same program that helped her son.

Supported by Send Relief, this ministry is helping children grow stronger while creating opportunities to share the hope of Christ.
