AFEE is a non-profit organization dedicated to funding grants that enrich educational experiences at the Allendale K-8 Schools.

AFEE's Board of Trustees is comprised of volunteers from the Allendale community. AFEE relies solely on the generosity of the community to raise funds for its grants. Since its inception in 1995, AFEE has funded nearly $1.9 million in grants at Hillside and Brookside Schools. These have included a number of cutting-edge technologies (Smart Boards, laptop carts, iPad learning labs); the Learning Commons (library) at Brookside; BTV, Brookside’s own television studio; Hillside’s award-winning Ecology Center; an updated Fitness Center for 6th-8th graders at Brookside; Hillside’s Theater Week; Brookside Bytes, a brand new digital newspaper; the award-winning Law Adventure program at Brookside; and many science and curriculum-extending assemblies. This past school year we completed the transformation of the library at Hillside School, and saw several new grants including the One School One Book program at Hillside and a Hydroponic and Aquatic Sytstem at Brookside School. One of the larger, more substantial grants for the 2019-2020 school year is the complete renovation and technological improvement of Brookside School’s science labs, beginning with 8th grade. These grants are independent of the district’s budget, and consistent with the goals, objectives, and policies of the Allendale Board of Education.

A Statement from AFEE

Unfortunately, recent statements regarding AFEE, our donations, and our grant process have brought our organization into Allendale’s mayoral race.

We want to be clear: AFEE is a nonpartisan organization. Our responsibility is to the students and schools we serve. AFEE follows established guidelines to ensure that donations are directed back to our schools to enrich our children’s educational experiences. Our grant process is guided by these guidelines and our mission to support students, educators, and our school community. When we say AFEE’s funds go back to our schools to enrich our children’s education, we mean it!

We respectfully ask that AFEE remain separate from political campaigning so we can stay focused on our mission of supporting our schools and students.

🍔🏆 And the winner is… the **Fig & Pig Burger!**

Congratulations to the D’Antonio Family—especially Michael and Charlotte for dreaming up this delicious Burger of the Week!

What’s on it? A juicy all-beef patty, melty fontina cheese, pickled red onion, arugula, crispy fried prosciutto, and fig jam, all on a brioche bun. 🤤

🎃 28 pumpkins. 28 homerooms. Endless creativity. AFEE was thrilled to fund a Mini-Grant for Brookside’s 4th–8th graders to take part in a school-wide Pumpkin Design Competition! Each homeroom gets its own pumpkin to transform into a work of art, encouraging students to flex their creative muscles while working together as a team. And yes, there will be an AFEE Artistic Award. 🏆 We have a feeling choosing a winner won’t be easy! This is what AFEE Mini-Grants are all about: giving teachers the resources to turn great ideas into memorable student experiences. 🧡
